Talk about Jewish mom guilt...

DH and I are looking to move to VA (have been for over a year). DH had an interview Friday and it looks promising... but we'll see.
Well this is what MIL sends DH after he tells her the reference check went well.

'I'll keep my fingers crossed (I guess) I have very mixed emotions about the whole thing, which I'm sure you know. Obviously I want you to be happy....I just want you to be happy closer to home. '

Give me a break. I understand she'll miss him but we really don't need this now. My aunt just died and we have enough stress with that... and now she has to give grief? ARGH!

Ah love the jewish guilt....My mom used to do it all the time....God I miss that. Now I just get it from my sister lol

i'm not jewish, but i feel this thread. can we add italian moms to this list?? fmil is italian (my family is irish/scottish) and she gets freaked out about when fh & i talk about where we want to live. not too far away, she says. cause if something happens....oh my lord, i could go on for days....

Tracy, did we marry brothers?

MIL says the SAME THING. She practically sat shiva when we told her we were moving. Nevermind the fact that in Delaware, we are STILL closer to Long Island than BIL is - he goes to Cornell. But we left New York State, so we're apparently gone forever.

my mom moved to montauk! since dh and i really don't know HOW ON THIS GOOD EARTH WE'RE GOING TO AFFORD A HOUSE HERE, my mom is soooooo paranoid that we'll move so far away that you can only get to us by plane. she's afraid of flying. so i totally understand the guilt!!!

Yes you can add Italian mothers to the list. Mine is the master of giving guilt trips...

Someone mentioned looking in Massapequa for a house and MIL almost had a freaking heart attack - 'I want them to be CLOSE to me.'

She lives in QUEENS for god's sake!

I definitely understand your pain!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DH just laughs it off. Maybe because my mom is NOT like that at all or maybe because I'm not Jewish but I think that's a terrible way to treat your kid(s)!

Are you kidding. My parents moved to AZ! I didn't get the chance to get the guilt trip. They beat me to it!
