anonyms poll.. need advice(UPDATED) please read bottom post!

I just found out last night that and aunt of mine is not doing very good. I have not spoken to her in 10 years(family fight). I did run in to her daughter about 6 months ago and do have a phone number to call her. My question is should I call? She is also my godmother and the fight was not with me but because of my parents and them(neither set is together anymore divorced). I do want to call but I don't know if it's appopriate? Please vote! TIA!

Hmmm...i think that i would speak to my parents first about you calling and see their reaction. If they have no issues then yes call her.
If they do and hard feelings are still there...I would still be upfront with my family about calling...

I think it depends on what caused the rift. I had a somewhat similar situation. There was a situation in my family that led to the two families not speaking for 10 years. Then my mother had a feeling that she was supposed to call that family, and she did. My family, especially the family member that was most directly involved with this situation, was extremely hurt and upset that my mother contacted her.

There's another part of my family that we also do not talk to (because of something similar that happened with the above family). For the longest time we thought it was one reason, and then later on found out something much more serious had likely caused the rift.

I would talk to your parents first, and make sure there isn't any underlying cause of this fight that you may be unaware of, and to make sure that you contacting her will not cause a lot of people to be upset.

Unfortunatly there's sometimes a lot more to the story that is shared...

ETA: Sorry if this is kind of confusing, I didn't wnat to write exactly what happened in a public forum.

ty all for your supoort yet again! omg i am so numb at this point tears don't flow! ok first things first . i did talk to my mom about calling my cousin and she said please do it . so i left a late mohter's day message and said for her to give me a call acted as i did not know. so well see on that. second, my little guy the one i was a one on one for (they have been in florida and had no ideas what happen) called me today to let me know there will be staying in florida for a few days more. i had to tell the mother and she was poed! i told i am ok with it now but i will still help her and not to bother with the school. then the blow of all blow and surprise. my uncle the one who just had the quintuple bypass well he came out wonderful from that but it's not his heart anymore that they are worried with. while in the sugery they saw a lump from his stomage and did a scan short story he has cancer of the liver and pancress(sp) so bad they are in shock that he is not showing any signs. they give him a few months. please say a prayer for them please! thanks again for all your support while i vent on here! sorry so long!
