Re: New Engagement Ring setting

yesI have seen settings without stones in some store I have also jsut seen the ring with no type of diamonds in it whatsoever

I guess you would bring your ring with you and show them what your want and they would be able to tell which settings would fit your stone

I am jsut taking a guess I ahve never done this

Re: New Engagement Ring setting

I went to the Jewelry Exchange at mall in New Jersey (the one off of Route 1/9)

FI got my setting done there w/the diamond he bought from the Diamond District in NYC.

They have about one million different types of settings. AND - they're 100% safe b/c they don't touch your diamond or pull any of that swtiching stuff b/c you have it the whole time until you take it to the actual guy who sets it for you and watch him. CHEAP!

Re: New Engagement Ring setting

My diamond was my Mom's, so all we needed to do was get a setting... We looked many places and being it was my Mom's diamond I wanted to go to a reputable place. Quality was also an issue. It's amazing what some places will try to pass off as platinum!

We went with HL Gross & Bros. in Garden City.
I highly recommend them!

ETA: The jeweler does the work right in front of you too - as do most places.

Re: New Engagement Ring setting

Tri COunty is in Levittown on Hempstead Turnpike, just east of the wantagh parkway. The other place I would check is good old gold in Massapequa on Sunrise Highway.

Re: New Engagement Ring setting

whatever you do, don't bother with Fortunoff. They won't touch your diamond unless it was bought there.

I shopped and shopped around...first choice was HL Gross, but the jeweler was on vacation for two weeks... I really wanted my ring! We looked so many places...the platinum at most places isn't marked with the PLAT - which I believe means it's 95% platinum...you'll feel the difference. It's so heavy...you can really feel the quality. All other places I went had light settings..it felt like air. There was only one other place that had nice platinum that I went to and that was Fortunoff, but as someone just posted they won't even touch another diamond. I'm just so glad I waited for HL Gross.

I just wanted to explain the Fortunoff thing...when FH proposed, he bought the diamond only, he wanted me to pick out my own setting (I am SO glad he let me do that! ) The jeweler he bought it from was nice enough to let him propose to me in a temporary setting so that I can wear it right away, we returned the setting the very next day.

Anyhow, not knowing, we went to Fortunoff to buy the setting I wanted (which was a platinum tiffany setting). They would sell it to me, but not set it. I asked to speak w/a Manager and she said that if they damage your diamond they would be liable and that they can't get insurance for that (whatever). We were prepared to spend more (retail) for a setting from Fortunoff and ended up saving $400 plus tax on the exact same setting from someone else.

Re: New Engagement Ring setting

I did this. My FH bought me a beautiful solitaire but because it was set so low I had a really hard time finding a band to go with it.
I wound up buying a matching set from Good Old Gold in Massapequa. They have lots of settings.
