How can I move my wedding dress from FL to NY for wedding?

Anyone have any ideas as to how I can get my wedding dress from FL to NY for the wedding without destorying it? I'm thinking of wrapping it in plastic and rolling it into a bag and using that as my carry on on the plane. I'm too scared to ship it . . .

what do you think?

And then once I get there, how would I get it dewrinkled? would you trust a dry cleaner? should I steam it in my own bathroom?

Or, do you think I should try to have Bridal Reflections in Massapequa do it since all of my bridesmaids got their dresses there?

thanks!

I owuld have Bridal Reflections steam it for you, But I have seen people bring large delicate items on the plane and ask the crew if they can store it in the closet up front. I was flying delta song and a woman had bought an orange tree in florida and took it on the plan and made this request and they did it without a problem.

I believe you can carry it on the place with you. Just call the airline and double check. On another subject...I saw that you are going to the Bahamas next week. I just got back from there a couple of weeks ago. It was great. I do have some advise regarding the trip home so FM if you want details.

I wouldn't ship it or check it on a plane. It's one thing to lose a regular box of clothes but this is your wedding dress.

When my cousin returned to Ireland for her wedding they allowed her to bring it on the plane with her. I would alert the airline a head of time so they can make sure they have room aboard. She gave it to a flight attendant and the dress was less than 10 feet away from her.

There were so many family members on that trip that we were all guarding it anyway

Re: How can I move my wedding dress from FL to NY for wedding?

I was thinking of you the other day and did a search for this post. I am going to Florida on Wednesday for my cousins wedding. I have my big bridesmaid gown to bring down with me. My mom was going to take it on the plane with her and ask them to store it in the front closet they have. Well just an FYI, if you take Jet Blue, they do not store items anymore. They said that if my mom brought my gown on, that she would either have to roll it up an stuff it in the overhead compartment, and that is if there is room, or she would have to check it and under the plane it goes, or she would have to buy another seat for it. Just wanted to let you know this incase you are flying jet blue, they will not store it on board for you!!!

Re: How can I move my wedding dress from FL to NY for wedding?

I had this problem coming from CA to NY for my own wedding. We flew SouthWest and called ahead of time to ask what their policy was. They also told me that I couldn't use their extra closet space.

However, their solution worked out really well for me, so this is what I did. I kept my dress is it's dress bag and very carefully tried to roll it up. Not too tight, but I made it small enough that it would fit in a large carry-on duffel bag. That way, because it was carry-on I could keep it with me, and because it was in a duffel bag, I made sure that no one put anything on top of it in the overhead compartments. If it's not in a bag and they tell you to lay it over the other bags in the overhead, I'm not sure that it would really work and stay nice and flat.

Oh, and when I took my dress out of the bag it was hardly wrinkled at all (because it was rolled instead of folded). I took it to a local drycleaner and they pressed it for me.

I would definitely call the airline first and talk to them, but the duffel bag DOES work.

Side-note- when we got to NY they had LOST one of my bags. I got it back later that night, but imagine what it would have been like had it been my dress!
