How to 'reserve' seats for parents at reception?

Some have made the great suggestion of 'reserving' seats for the parents at the reception (since they usually come in last and get the 'cheap seats' with their backs to the dance floor).

I'm using chair covers at my reception, so I can't put a ribbon through the back with their names. Do you have any other suggestions as to how I can tell other guests not to sit there? Should I just put a sign ON the seat that says 'Reserved for Father of the Groom' etc?

Thank you

Re: How to 'reserve' seats for parents at reception?

How about special 'reserved' place cards right on their place setting?

Re: How to 'reserve' seats for parents at reception?

Two things we did. One was, my mom had the BM put her bag on her seat before she was introduced into the room. It was subtle and it did the trick. It just was common sense that there would be another seat next to that person if all of the people were couples at the table and there were. Even if there are singles at the table once they go to sit down, people whould normally move as they went to sit down to accommodate the other. They were in the reception room a few minutes before the entrance anyway talking with people at their table so their seats were picked before.

How about some pretty flowers on their chairs. I've seen small wreaths or something like a lei draped over the back of the chair.

Re: How to 'reserve' seats for parents at reception?

Since the people sitting with your parents are pretty close with them (and you) I would just make sure they know to keep those 2 seats open. You could have the BM tell them, or one of the groomsmen. Or you could do it yourself prior to the wedding. I'm sure they'd be accomodating to that simple request for the parents to have good seats at the wedding of their children!

It wasn't even an issue for me, their table is filled with family so everyone knew to leave the best seats for them
