DH, sleep apnea mask, and snoring

DH has been wearing a sleep apnea mask for about a year. It's been great, but recently, he's started snoring again!!!! He doesn't stop breathing like he used to, it's now just a 'regular' snore. PS, I haven't been getting a lot of sleep.

I'm thinking of calling Winthrop Hospital where he initially went for the sleep study. any other suggestions???

I'm so-o-o-o-o tired........

Re: DH, sleep apnea mask, and snoring

My Dad has this. Your DH may need to be fitted for a new mask.

Re: DH, sleep apnea mask, and snoring

Does your DH still have his tonsils? I had mine removed 2 years ago - and for the first time in my adult life I dont snore.

Re: DH, sleep apnea mask, and snoring

mrsmck - would you be able to tell me more about the sleep study - how long it took, etc? My sister's husband has been snoring for years and she has PASSED her wit's end. If you don't feel comfortable posting about your husband's experience, could you FM me? TIA

Re: DH, sleep apnea mask, and snoring

My dad and FH suffers from sleep apnea too.
1) the mask could need adjustment (including the amount of pressure needed to keep his air way open). Go to the ENT who prescribed it to get this done.
2) 'cures' for sleep apnea may not cure snoring...they are 2 different things. FH may go for the surgery, and they said even if it cured the sleep apnea, he may still snore.
3) Is he congested? It is allergy season and it seems almost everyone is affected. Swelling in his nasal passages or his glands may be the reason

My dad actually got back from a sleep study this morning. He left at about 9ish last night and came back this morning at 6am. Sometimes they do it in the home, sometimes they do it in the sleep clinic. FH was there only for about 4 hrs. The most annoying think I am told is that you are hooked up to a lot of wires and tubes and it's difficult to sleep. But otherwise it's nothing to worry about. It's very important to get this checked out.

Re: DH, sleep apnea mask, and snoring

I had one before my surgery, it's alot of lines attached to your head, chest, two on your legs, the bed is not comfortable.. so getting decent sleep is impossible, they watch you via video and monitor all the wires to see if you stop breathing while you sleep. I have a mild form of it, and don't need a mask to sleep, they feel mine is weight related and once I lose more weight it will go away naturally.

Re: DH, sleep apnea mask, and snoring

definitely have his mask checked.....sleep apnea is nothign to ignore - ever! it is a serious condition - my fil had it and we nenevr relaized the importance of wearing his mask until we saw him hooked up to a monitro in icu and could see his blood oxygen level dropping - it was scary! if you have concerns, def talk to his doctor who can refer him to get it refitted as necessary! good luck!

Re: DH, sleep apnea mask, and snoring

I would take him back to Winthrop and telling them that his symptoms have returned.

Re: DH, sleep apnea mask, and snoring

My FH just had a sleep study last week because I'm pretty sure he has sleep apnea. The snoring is INSANE! I hope the mask helps or we'll need separate bedrooms ! We're still waiting for the results.
