Holy Mold! - Update below...
HELP! Anyone!Yesterday we were digging around in the back of our bedroom closet and I noticed MOLD...LOTS and LOTS of MOLD!
Today we removed everything from our closet and found so MUCH MOLD! We called our landlord and he said he would be getting someone over here tomorrow to look at it. We now have clothes that need to be washed and suits to be dry cleaned laying all over our apt!
It's amazing...I've been wondering why the heck am I so sick lately (past 2 years)...cronic headaches, bronchitis, etc. Now we know why! Now that the clothes have been removed we cannot even go in the room the smell is so bad and it is burning our eyes and noses.
Does anyone have any advise on what to do until the guys come over tomorrow to fix it?

Re: Holy Mold!
We're guessing a leak on the roof or a pipe in the wall...hopefully this can get done soon...our apt is turned upside down.

So sorry for you! All I have to say is BLEACH! It won't solve the source of the problem, but it will improve the conditions for you and within your closet.

Re: Holy Mold!
Mold is very bad for you - espcially if you have asthma.
We used to have it in our bathroom a long time ago and my mom would bleach the area then amonia it (NOT RECOMMENDED) every couple of months cause it got so bad.
He needs to take care of that problem IMMEDIATELY or you will never feel better.
I'm so sorry you have to go thru this at this time

Re: Holy Mold!
Thanks everyone! You would not believe it....FH just called our landlord and he has yet to call anyone!!! FH is too nice of a guy sometimes and is sweet talking with him...I said 'Tell him we're sleeping on the couch...tell him to get his butt over here to look at it!'... He says he'll be over tonight. I think if he doesn't seriously take care of this soon we'll have to do it ourselves and give him the bill....$$$$$.I'm just so glad I have answers to all my reoccurring health problems!

Re: Holy Mold!
I would see a doctor also about your health problems, then after he diagnoses your problem, ask him about the mold - he'll be blaming it on that immediately!FFIL's garage has a huge mold spot on the ceiling and wall. Everytime I would go in there, I had to hold my breath so I didn't breathe in the fumes/smell/toxins or I would immediately lose my breath
Now that he has replaced the roof and fixed the leak, it isn't as bad, but it's still rough on the lungs.

Re: Holy Mold! - Update below...
Mold update....Ugh! Just came back from the drycleaners. She took all that she could and let me with 5 blazers to my suits saying there is no way in hell that is coming out. So with that in mind...the total of what could be dropped off, but no guarantee...is $72.75. Not including the $25 worth of laundry we dropped off this morning at the laundromat. So, INCLUDE the 5 suits that are ruined at $150-200 each...we're looking at a months free of rent!!! Let's not forget the items we just threw out because we couldn't be bothered... The contractor came by today and said he will start tomorrow. Almost everything needs to be ripped out of that room and they should be done by Monday. So...another week on the couch.

Oh im sorry that sounds terrible...at least its getting fixed (slowly at that) .... Are you planning on going to a doctor to tell him about the mold, or do you think with the mold gone the health problems will kind of just subside..... I'm sorry you have to go through this...I'm all paranoid now and going to check my closets when I get home...Good Luck

I'm so glad it's getting fixed...and that I believe this is the answers to my health problems. I think I might go to the doctors for confirmation too.
Definitely check them out...you never know... Thankfully our landlord is being cooperative...I can't wait for him to pick up the rent tonight and see the 'bill' I have for him...

Re: Holy Mold! - Update below...
I see that it's being fixed and that's a great thing but some of your things might need to be thrown away! My best friend had this same problem in her apartment and her daughter who was a newborn at the time was sick every other week for almost a year because of it. She had to throw away so much because no matter what the mold kept coming back. It was horrible and she's now in a lawsuit with her prior landlord for all the damage.I strongly recommend going to a doctor and getting checked out and you might also want to get a professional in to test the air/ environment because mold can be hazardous!

Re: Holy Mold! - Update below...
Well, at least it's getting fixed, but as eroxgirl said, you may need to get rid of much more then you originally thought.
If you have any bags or boxes in that closet, make sure you throw them all out also.

Re: Holy Mold! - Update below...
it could be a leak and your landlord needs to look into if this is a hazardous type of mold which may have killed you. You might also consult an attorney if you risk losing your apt.Welcome New Vendors
