Hawaii excursions - book now or later?

Hi ladies
My honeymoon is fast approaching (yea) and i like to book things in advance. I would like to book excursions - the travel agent gave us some. Should I book them now or will I get better deals and more choices when I get there? I know that hotels usually have someone to help you book excursions. Should I wait?
Thanks

Re: Hawaii excursions - book now or later?

When FH and I vacationed in Hawaii we booked the luau and two excursions beforehand. We were planning to add on another two excursions, but only added one because we had so much fun just hanging at the beach, relaxing and driving around!

I thought this was ideal. We didn't have to worry that we wouldn't get reservations for the excursions we REALLY wanted - (snorkeling, tubing and luau), but we still didn't feel bogged down by too many excursions (and could plan excursions based on our mood)!

What travel agency do you use? We don't have one and we usually book vacations on line.

Thanks.

DDB-
You are getting married on my anniversary. If you cant get to a luau on the 4th and you are in Maui we spent the day in Lahaina, we walked around the shops, ate there and then sat on a stone wall overlooking the water and watched the fireworks! It was really nice! I wish I was spending this 4th in Maui!!

Have fun! Its an amazing trip!

Re: Hawaii excursions - book now or later?

All we booked before we left was the helicopter ride on Kauai, and our luau on Maui. We did the Luau at the Hyatt, and ended up changing the date when we were there anyhow, b/c of a conflict with a show we wanted to see.

Now I wonder if we should do a dinner cruise on the fourth? Im torn. but when the luau ends, and then we can walk around front street.

Re: Hawaii excursions - book now or later?

DH and I didn't got to Hawaii, but I just want to throw my two cents in.... I would suggest planning maybe 2 of the ones you really want to do ahead of time and then plan the rest as you go. DH and I spent two weeks in Mexico (one week in Acapulco and one week in Puerto Vallarta) and there were a few excursions we thought for usre we would do. It turns out that all we managed to do was one dinner cruise in the entire two weeks. We were just so happy to have an opportunity to relax that we didn't feel like doing sh!t.

Re: Hawaii excursions - book now or later?

We didn't book anything ahead of time because we knew we wouldn't want to be held to a schedule. We were so glad we waited. We were so exhausted the first couple of days we were there, we didn't really want to do much of anything. After talking to other people there, we had a better idea of what we wanted to do and when. The only thing we should have booked ahead, was the luau because it was sold out a few months in advance.
