Can a store discontinue or run out of an item on your registry?

I was just looking on Macy's website, and they no longer carry the china pattern that I want to register for. When you register, does the store 'hold' the items that you are registered for, or are you at risk of having things discontinued while they are on your registry?

You are at risk of it being discontinued, unfortunately. Crate and Barrel is the worst in that dept....I love their stuff, but everything gets discontinued so quickly!

the same thing happened to me at both places I registered at! It's so annoying!

1/2 of my sister's registry at macy's was discontinued...she had to go back 3 times to reregister.

if you go the Macy's and are lucky enough to get someone knowledable...they usually know when the season for a particular item...such as china or linens changes...and if a particular item is at risk of being discontinued

also...one of the sales guy at Target told me that anything that's price ends in .98 is a clearance item...so try to avoid registering for those items since they may not be available.

That is really annoying. Is there any way you can find out whether or not something at a given store is 'here to stay'?

No real way to tell--but a few girls here have told me that bed linens are always discontinued every year, and a new line comes out in Spring.

Alot of items on my registry were discontinued. I sent a copy of my registry to BBB via email and they told me which ones were discontinued and which were going to be discontinued. Maybe Macys can do that for you too.

Unfortunately they can - it's not always the stores fault - the manufacturer can discontinue and there's nothing that the store can do about it - my original china was discontinued and i had to find another one

one other question then... if something on your registry does become discontinued, does the store notify you? How do you find out?

my sister noticed on the website that the items were marked discontinued....her SIL also called her to tell her that a few of the cyrstal items she registered for are unavailable....but the store never actually called my sister.

Although I do believe that some stores do call....just not macy's

Hmmm...now I understand why people get so excited when things are bought off of their registry!

My pots and pans got discontinued. And, they don't have a comperable set. They only have really expensive ones, which is fine with me but I know nobody is going to spend $500 on pots and pans for me.

Macy's notified me with two letters. They were very good about it.

When we registered, we were told not to register for linens until 2-3 months before because things get discontinued. For both our Pottery Barn and Williams-Sonoma registries, we got e-mails when something was discontinued.

Yeah they can i was so mad that they did. I have to go to macys tonight to fix it. I'm so made that it did

BBB didn't notify me. I went shopping for a shower gift there for somebody else last month and 80% of the stuff was either discontinued or out of stock.

I got emails from Fortunoff and Crate & Barrel when something got discontinued.
