Got a letter in our mailbox yesterday about a Level 2 Sex Offender living in the area
Why does it come from the Superintendent of Schools?I was just surprised that the letter is so geared towards the *safety of the children* as opposed to the safety of the community since it doesn't specify the individual is a pedophile (or is that assumed since it is coming from the school district?).

Re: Got a letter in our mailbox yesterday about a Level 2 Sex Offender living in the area
Does he do his business in other people's driveways????
I don't think they're allowed to distinguish because the offender does have rights - although if you look up Level 2 sex offender it might give some details

Re: Got a letter in our mailbox yesterday about a Level 2 Sex Offender living in the area
I did look it up & from what I could tell the levels were associated with the RISK level, not the prior acts ...

Part of assigning a risk level is number of offenses! and Multiple convictions

Re: Got a letter in our mailbox yesterday about a Level 2 Sex Offender living in the area
I get them regularly
- they always come from the superintendent of schools - - I think it's part of Meagan's Law (or some other legislation). I know the sex offenders have to 'register' when they move - - and from there the schools notify the local community since the 'could' be a danger (based on past behavior).I don't know the details, but that's my very simple understanding of it. I just hate to see that I get them like 2 or 3 times a year.

I know, after I read it, I was all closing the back door (which I had open for the dogs), etc

You must live in the same town as our apartment, b/c I got the same letter yesterday also. We're moving soon anyway, so I'm not that worried...but I did find it rather disturbing.

Hey, I have one living around the corner from me!! I have seen him on the website. It says he is from another town though so I don't know if he has registered with our town yet. The cops WERE there the other day though. I was hoping they were taking him away, but they weren't. I have 2 kids and the victim was a 6 year old girl!!!!!!

Schools are mandated to inform the community.Actually, due the expense of postage... one school district was spending over $30,000 a year (it may have been Sachem or Smithtown, one of the larger districts) on those notices alone, many have now resorted to e-mailing the community members.

It was probably Sachem. That was probably part of the 18% tax hike they wanted to give us!!
