Re: My son is sick again. What do you do when you cant bring them to daycare?

I wish I had some advice to offer you!
I hate jobs that are so strict like that, my job has a thing called 'family sick' and we are allowed up to 10 days a year.
I don't honestly know of anyone who would watch a child when they are sick. In my experience even if you drop him off they won't keep him there, they will call you to come back and get him! They are just trying to protect the other kids, which is normal.
Even a close friend I used to babysit once in a while didn't want to take him when he was sick, I really couldn't blame her though.
I really wish I had some advice!

Do you know of any college age girls that would be willing to watch him once in a while?

I dont know any college girls. Even if I did - its during the day when I need them and most go to class then. I just hate tho have to find a STRANGER to watch my baby when he is SICK so I can keep my job! The only reason I have it is to support him in the first place.

College is almost over..or over at least for summer. You may be able to get someone. The only hting is they would have to be like 'on call.' How about a nanny?

Gabe had a private babysitter but when he was sick she would not take him. I need someone for next school year.

I think the school district should try to get someone so their employess could still come to work and know their child was being taken care of in a nearby home. Then I could check on him during lunch and it would be someone the school district and teachers know and trust. Noone there is listening to me. They all seem to have stay at home moms or wives in their families somehow who help them out - but I dont! :(

Are you saying that it would be taxpayer paid for daycare in your school? If so then not for nothing, but most people have to pay for their own day care.
Why should people in your district have to pay for thier own daycare AND the daycare for your child.
I am sorry your son is sick and I am sorry for your situation but unfortunatly it's a part of life that stinks.

If not, and each teacher would pay for thier own child in the daycare then why not try to push harder, go to the principal and the superintendant or anyone else that will listen!

I hope that you can find a solution soon though!

Maybe she meant she would be willing to pay for it?

Re: My son is sick again. What do you do when you cant bring them to daycare?

I know its hard to deal with. I don't know what I would do I am kinda lucky cuz my FH works nites so he stays home with our daughter when she is sick but when she is really sick I will take off of work and I have been told that I have taken alot of days together I told my bosses I have 10 vacation days and I have 3 personal days and 5 or 6 sick days to use how I want through the year and if I need to take them I will. I also told them that my daughter's health is more important then a job.

I really hope you can find someone to take care of your son when he is sick

Re: My son is sick again. What do you do when you cant bring them to daycare?

There are companies that have 'sick care' that I have read about. It is a group of daycare workers that will travel to a person's home to care for a sick child when a parent must get into work for a meeting or whatever. I have NEVER actual seen a company that does it myself, but read about it in different Working Mother's Magazines.

I can tell you that it is REALLY hard when your child is sick and all you want is to hold them but instead you are in a meeting, crying inside. As a single mom it must be even harder to deal with. I am just sending you my thoughts and some hugs.

Have you considered looking for a private babysitter that is 'on call'? Maybe an older women from your area that does not need a full-time income but is retired and would love to help you (for a fee, of course) on sick days? Maybe even call the local churchs and ask. They may have people who love to care for children and don't need a full-time income.
