Re: Student Loan rates- Help!

I was just about to post the same thing!!! I have my loan through Direct Loan (government). I have some notice from MBNA and another through College Loan Corp. I pay my loan automatically through my checking. Who do I call? Do I keep paying the way I do? I am totally confused!

Re: Student Loan rates- Help!

Can you reconsolidate your loans? I already consolidated mine a few years ago. Is the current rate 3.25%? Right now my interest rate is 4.0%, but in July it should go down to 3.0% because I made 3 years of on time payments. Before you consolidate, make sure you shop around. Even though the interest rate you get initially will be the same, a lot of lenders offer incentives for paying on time. I remember one I looked into gave a decrease of 0.5% after 4 years, but I found one that gave 1.0% after only 3 years.

Re: Student Loan rates- Help!

You can only reconsolidate your loans if you have a new student loan to add to it.

You also can only consolidate Federal loans, any private Student loans cannot be rolled into the consolidation (as we found out a couple weeks ago).

We have my DH's through Citibank and are locked in at 2.875%. We're rolling his Sallie Mae loan into his current Gov't loans as well.
