Band/Tip $$$$$ Dollars

I spoke to two different bands this week.
They both told me that any money that is thrown at the bride and groom should go to the band, preferable as a tip and the band would find it rude if it was not for them. He did say that both parties can agree to split it or to give the first batch or so to the couple? Is tis true???

Yes, for Greek weddings it is. I've only seen the money split once and it was for my friend's e-party. Normally it goes to the band. Mel who did you see?

Hi Irene!! I just made some phone calls, one to Zephyros in Baltimore (they travel believe it or not) and another few based in NJ

Jack Goodman/Athena Band and

Something Special Orchestra (both hire out to a Greek band)

My father told me at my brother's wedding he insisted to the guys sweeping up the money that it should be for the couple, not the band. I guess if they are received a tip maybe then it is acceptable? who knows

That's great!

You definitely have to discuss that beforehand...if you insist I am sure you can work something out with them. I know it doesn't seem right but it's customary. I was shocked when I first found out.

I went to a greek wedding last year and the band didn't take the money thatwas thrown at the couple the money was picked up and put in a nice bag and handed to the couple the couple took that money and gave the band an envelope

Me Personally I wouldn't let teh band take the money thrown at the bride and groom cuz it might be more then you were willing t o tip them to begin with. But if thats the tradition and thats what you want to do then I think its a nice idea

I had never hear of that before.... Interesting - I am Italian ..if Someone tried to take money that was thrown at us there would be a problem
