NWR my poor lil pup..UPDATED @ BOTTOM

I posted on the pets board but my poor lil pup!!!

He woke up this morning fine and he was outside with my mom while I was at the gym. Anyway, I came hom eand he cant lift up his tail. Its bent down like if I were to yell at him sort of. He can wiggle it but when I tried to lift it up he kind of whimpered and treid to get away.

I called like 3 vets and they were all closed, finally I got an emergency center, and she said he could have just fell or someone stepped on it.... He is acting normal and doesnt seem to be in any pain. I gave him half of a anti inflammetory from his neutering...

My question is, do you think I should bring him to the clinic and probably pay $$$$$ or wait till tomorrow and see how he is and take him to my regukar vet?

I would wait to see your regular vet, if everything else seems to be ok.

I don't know what to tell you, this is a decision you'll have to make on your own...

poor little pup! I can get really neurotic when it comes to my pets, they are like my children to me... if he is acting normal, eating fine, playing fine and you feel it's Ok to wait, then wait... but if you feel otherwise I would take him to the emergency clinic (I know they charge you arm and leg... ) just listen to your gut feeling.

he is eating drinking and playing... he can sit and run so Im thinking I will wait and see how he is in a few more hours.

The 24 hour clinic in west islip on Sunrise HWY is AMAZING!! I wish they were regular vets! If you want to go anywhere, go to them!

i don't have a dog, but fh does. and whenever she gets like that, my fmil gives her a baby aspirin. hth

If he's looking and acting normal otherwise, wait until tomorrow to take him to your normal vet. However, I would definitelyget it checked out as soon as they can see you.

Just writing to see how your doggy is doing now since it's a little later since you last posted? Hope that all is well!! I know how upset you must be....I'm sooo neurotic with all of my pets!!

He isnt doing as good today. I called the vet this morning that theywant to see him bc she said that he could have hurt his hip or back and he is doing that to compensate.

He is kinda walking funny today. Im off to the vet in like 15 mintues. Ill update when I get home.

Oh, good luck! I was reading about it online, and I think some of the hunting breeds tend to get a limp tail, and it may be that he hurt some muscles in his tail. Fred is a beagle, right? I think they may be one of the breeds prone to it. But don't take my word for it, since I was just reading this online.

OK so the vet said that his tail is definately hurt. He said instead of sedating him (the only way he will be able to manipulate the tail to get an xray) he suggested that it might just be a bruise or trauma of some kind. He gave him a shot of pain medicine and some for the next few days. If it doesnt get better by then, he will need the xray.

He is also like 4 pounds overweight so I am kind of bummed. I guess no more trats for a while.

Thanks for all the well wished for my lil guy.

The worst part is that we(my parents) have a Rotty and they cant play for a while. It is going to be tough to keep them separated...hoping for rain the next few days.

awww poor little guy, at least he'll be comfortable with the medication

4lbs is not much at all, don't be bummed, just give him less treats or give him veggies as treats! My little ones would eat anything, they LOVE carrots lol
