Dress Shopping -- Need Advice

My mom is coming to visit in a few weeks and wants to go dress shopping. It will be my first dress shopping experience so I think I would like to go first to a place that has the dresses out on display so I will be able to see all the different options. I heard some places keep them hidden and bring options out to you based on what you are looking for...not that that is bad, but I think for my first attempt I would like to be able to see everything. Any recommendations of good places to go?

Also, I am pretty tall, about 5'11 barefoot. I really want my dress to go all the way to the floor. I always hear that the dresses are all super long, but I am still worried!

Re: Dress Shopping -- Need Advice

Paradise Bridal has them out. RK Bridal has an amazing selection and you can walk among them. Macy's also has them out.
Bridal Reflections keeps them hidden. Those are the only places I have been to. I wouldn't worry about your height, when you are ready to order the dress they can take a hem to hollow measurement to make sure the dress is the right length for you.
Make sure you make an appointment, and have lots of fun!

Re: Dress Shopping -- Need Advice

I like Lillette's in Baldwin. That is where I'm ordering my dress. They have them out along the wall, and the woman at the shop (Gerri at Lillette's is great) showed me all the ones she thought would be good for my body type. I know with my dress, because there is detailing at the bottom, I have to order it to my height. So if you are tall, you could try to get a dress like that. The bridal shop attendant will know which dresses need a hem to hollow measurement. That way, it will be made to your height (with shoes on) and you don't have to worry. Not all dresses are made like that, but if you are concerned, you could ask to try on dresses that require the hem to hollow measurement.
