Spanish Brides..........

FH just got off the phone with his mother in Puerto Rico. She was asking him about our wedding's 'Madrina de Voda' (not sure if that's the correct spelling). FH thinks we may have slighted her regarding this role, but we're not sure what it is. Is anyone familiar with Spanish tradition and what the Madrina de Voda may be?

Re: Spanish Brides..........

Hi! The Madrina de Bodas or the Padrino de Bodas are generally people (sometimes older) whom you would like to honor in some way or play a role in your wedding without making them a BM or GM or the MOH and BM. In places like Mexico, where the tradition is still very much alive, Padrinos and Madrinas are picked for almost every aspect and they are in charge of paying or getting that patricular thing. For example: getting the cake, paying for the flowers, paying for the reception, etc. They are also the ones who put the lazos around you during the 'lazos de amor' aspect of the ceremony or 'host' parts of the reception.

It seems that the roles they play here are more symbolic though. We had a Padrino (my DH's brother) and really all he did was act as usher and stand for us...so he was in a way a 'glorified' GM but DH wanted him to have a 'special' title.

Here's a link to the Spanish Brides Thread there's some info there about Padrinos and Madrinas...hope it helps!

Re: Spanish Brides..........

Madrina and Padrino are God-Mother and God-Father in english.
But the role they play in events is basically that of sponsors. Normally, it would be a older married couple who is an inspiration and very dear to the couple that is being married.
