I know we're not supposed to give into fear the terrorists want, but

I'm headed to Italy for 10 days on Tuesday.

I just heard on CNN and MSNBC that Italy and Denmark were warned to withdraw their troops, or they're next.

Of course, we're visiting all the typical tourist areas, and we're using public transportation to travel between all stops. My Mother is crying that she no longer wants to go, and although I comforted her and told her that she's being ridiculous, there's still some fear in me.

'We are still warning the governments of Denmark and Italy that they will receive the same punishment if they do not pull out their troops from Iraq and Afghanistan,' said the statement provided in Arabic to Reuters by al-Quds al-Arabi newspaper.

When is this going to be over?! Obviously, withdrawing the troops is not the answer. Do we take these warnings seriously? Or are they just crap?

You have every right to be afraid but I really think that you'll be okay -- because they are aware of the threat, the Italians (and probably most other European nations) will take extra security measures to prevent an attack.

You have to live your life. I understand the fear, but you can't shut yourself up in your house, there is danger anywhere you go....

Me either My brother and his GF are going to Italy on Weds for 9 days....They are pretty much doing the same stuff as you guys..

I understand how you feel, and really it is not posible to know exactly the right thing to do until you have already done it. However, I did not go to Spain after the plane crashed in Lockerbie Scotland, and I have not had a chance to go back yet. I totally regret not going. Like another poster said, you have to live your life. Just know where the nearest US Embassy is (which I do for every foreign trip anyway) and ask your hotel about their safety accomodations.

You know, for some reason, I was very nervous on my most recent flight back to London from NY...but then I started to think, whatever was going to happen was going to happen.

You really can't live your life in fear of what might happen. You'll miss out on so much! and if somewhere down the road something tragic (god forbid) does touch you, at least you'll know that you made the most of the time you had.

I know it sounds cliche...but I really mean it. I think we're all guilty of slacking on the 'Live life to the fullest' mentality, but I'm going to really try from now on.

I think I'd be a little more comfortable if FH was going to be with me - but he won't. He'll be in D.C. for the week.

I hate leaving him, and this is just making things worse.

that is completely understandable as well. DH is like my security blanket. Your fears are definitely reasonable, but honestly I would go and have a great time. It is sad that this happy time of planning for your trip is being taken over by fear and doubt. Whatever will be will be though. Even coming home from a local wedding things could happen.Enjoy your family vacation.

My Mom is scheduled to go on a class trip on Monday to Italy. She thinks it will be canceled but would go if it wasn't..that's so unlike her.
