Anyone ever consolidate credit card bills?

I have 4 cards that I really want to consolidate. I am not sure what companies are good. They are pretty much at their limit and I pay a little more then the minimum each month. I am so upset that this happened, I used to pay in full every month. We have so many bills now that we have a daughter together and the wedding coming up.

Anyway does anyone know of any good companies to work with?

Re: Anyone ever consolidate credit card bills?

I don't know, but once you consolodate PLEASE rip the cards up!!!

Countless times we've transferred all of our CC balances to one card that had a 0% rate on balance transfers, and then before we made a dent in that, the other ones were way up there again! Good Luck!

Yes this is what I am afraid of. Maybe we will keep one for emergencies and rip up the others? That might be dangerous too....

Re: Anyone ever consolidate credit card bills?

Yes! But make sure like 'buying that new DVD player doens't become your emergency' LOL. We're hvaing such a hard time paying our debt down. I mean we're making strides but something always happens and it gets back up there again. Fortunately we got a new car, so the 'car rboke down, needs $1500 of work' emergencies won't be occuring anymore. It's just so difficult and I saw my parents struggle with it for years. I don't want to see anyone trapped in that cycle. But who am i to talk, I just called and asked for a crdit line increase from AMEX

Anyone else consolidate their bills??

we just applied for a personal loan thru our bank and are waiting to hear if we got approved. If approved, we want to pay off all the 'little' bills-this way all we will have is rent and living expenses. At my bank, the monthly amount can be broken into 2 payments and automatically deducted.

I hope we made the right decision

Re: Anyone ever consolidate credit card bills?

We did and it was the best thing we ever did. We took out a loan at Washington mutual. The credit limit did not allow us to transfer everything over, so we took half our cards and put it on that loan.

We just kept making bulk payments to Wash Mutual, then it was paid off and we took another loan for our remaining debt.

My advice...cut up every single card you own. In an emergency, you can call your credit card company and have them express you a new card. At least then, you have a 3 day grace period to see if it is a true emergency. All our cards are closed except one. We had to apply for it to rent a car. They gave us a huge limit and I called back and had it reduced to 500.00.

Paying off debts can be done. At our highest point, we had 28k in credit cards alone. 4 years later we are in the clear. I will never charge again, and if I ever hear DH say the F word(finance) I told him it will be the last word I ever hear him say.

It was a personal loan, they sent us a payment book. It was not the best interest rate at all, but we did not care, we wanted a payment book to just constantly send any anount we had and not wait for a bill, and we did not want to transfer to another card in fear of racking it up again.

Do you own a house? If so, doing a refi with the credit cards works well especially if your cards are at a variable rate.
