Harry Potter Vent....
Am I the only adult that just doesn't get or care about Harry Potter?? What is the craze with the little sorcerer boy??? And why are adults so obsessed with these books, aren't they for for kids??? Who cares who the half blood prince is cause I sure don't give a rats ***!! I'm sorry if this offends some of you but it's been driving me crazy for years! Once I attempted to read one and it bored the crap out of me, I'm sure if I was 13 I would've loved it, but as an adult I just don't understand the appeal. Please someone explain this to me, or at least tell me I'm not alone!!!

Re: Harry Potter Vent....
...as it goes for most things...I think it is personal preference. My mother loves James Patterson, I would rather read A.S. Byatt.
I didn't read the first book until about a year after it came out. My friends had read it and thought it was amazing and I didn't really get the whole "Harry Potter" frenzy. Just to satiate my own curiosity, I read the first book and thought, Wow, not bad. I read the 2nd, 3rd and so on.
Although I am much older than the target audience, I still find myself going back to those books I loved as a child: "The Outsiders," "The Chronicles of Narnia" and others. I see no problem with adults gaining equal enjoyment from the adventures of Harry and the colorful cast of characters in Rowling's books.
Sorry for the long-winded response...I hope I answered your question.

Re: Harry Potter Vent....
It's definitely personal preference, but a big difference between the Harry Potter series and a series like The Chronicles of Narnia is the intense media hype and coverage. I wouldn't speak for others, but it makes me completely disinterested because of it.

Re: Harry Potter Vent....
It is a personal preference. I started reading it because I am a teacher and many of my kids were reading it. I like to keep up with the popular books they read so we can have class discussions. And I was hooked immediately. hey it gets people reading and talking..

I'm a children's librarian and I read those books as well as adults. i am also a harry potter fan. i am a huge fantasy fan actually. adults reading "children's" books isn't so unusual.

Re: Harry Potter Vent....
I've read all the Harry Potter books but I'm not obsessed and I read books for adults as well. Harry Potter is just a nice change of pace. A little vacation from reality.
