Spin-off to Registering Question

Are you worried about how much your place settings cost? Are you actively looking for reasonably priced sets or just putting what you like?

I like some Kate Spade designs but some are priced at $139 per setting!

Re: Spin-off to Registering Question

Yes, I am looking for affordable ones. This is my thinking....if I register for place settings that cost over $100 then more than likely 2 people will chip in for the gift (except family). Then that leaves me with getting less of the other, more practical items that I registered for. How often will I use fine china? (not very often) How often will I use a toaster oven? (Alot more than I will use the china)

Does that make sense to anyone?

It does! But I plan on registering for everday dishes, not fine china, so I'll be using the settings everday. It just seems more feasible to me to spend $100 on dishes that I would be using all the time, instead of even $60-$80 for dishes that will sit in a cabinet!

Re: Spin-off to Registering Question

Oh, if it's eveyday settings then that makes total sense - definitely go with whatever you like! I am registering for everyday as well as fine so I am watching the cost.

Re: Spin-off to Registering Question

i have to say that i chose what i loved. I didnt think ---oh its too expensive. I found what i wanted and said if people buy it great if not then i will ..or i can get it for presents for bdays from mom/fh etc. i didnt settle on what i wanted just because of price.
i suggest you choose what you really want and ignore price (to a point) because you will have it your whole life and probably pass it down- you should love it!!!

(youd be surprised how many people WANT to buy you the china- my mom's friend out of nowhere bought me two sets and gave it to me yesterday..as a HOUSEWARMING gift- so people will buy it for you)

Good point...I know BB&B carries Vera Wang, but not Kate Spade. I'll definitely check it out - thanks!

this is EXACTLY how I feel.... There are some Vera Wang and Kate Spade patterns that I fell in love with...but I just couldnt practically do it... I would much rather have more of my practical gifts that i registered for... I ended up finding a pattern that I really do like as well... it isnt super cheap, but it isnt super expensive either... it was about $30 less per setting then the kate spade settings...

Re: Spin-off to Registering Question

At first, we registered for Vera Wang dishes, but the more I thought about it, the less I thought anyone would get them for us. Not only were the dishes $130, all of the other items (sugar bowl, creamer) were equally pricey. My family just can't afford that. I changed the dishes to a set that is only $60 - but I like just as much.

We registered for Lenox which is like 109 a setting...it goes up and down at Macys, Fortunoff and BBandB all the time.

If people want to buy it they will

Re: Spin-off to Registering Question

I wasn't even looking at that to be honest, since people demanded we registered at Fortunoff. My Lenox setting is $90 right now..not too bad.
