SO happy that I FINALLY booked photo/video...BUT

FH and I finally booked photo and video last night. We went with Franklin Square Photographers, who we absolutely LOVED. We visited quite a few places, including some high-end vendors, and the photos from FSP really impressed us the most. Plus, we met our photographer and videographer and developed an instant rapport with them, which was great! We're paying more than we wanted to, but FSP's prices still fell in the mid-range compared to some of the other places we looked at.

The problem is that now I'm feeling what could only be described as 'buyer's remorse'. My mom keeps telling me that we're being ripped off by all these high prices for photo/video, and even my FH is a little annoyed at how much we had to pay. It's starting to make me feel like maybe we made the wrong decision - maybe we shouldn't have gone for the 2nd photographer or the bigger album.

I have the numbers to prove that everyone is asking astronomical prices for photo/video, but I still feel like maybe we went a little too crazy. I had decided from day one that pictures and video would be the one area in which I wanted to really splurge, but now my confidence is faltering.

Help, ladies! I need a little pep talk.

Your are spending SO MUCH money for one day. At the end of it all when the day is over and all the money is spent. The photos and video are all you have left!!!!!
I think they are the most important vendor of the whole day and if you are happy with them thats all that matters!!!!

I am feeling the same way. We are about to book a photographer and I think we are now deciding to get a few more ideas from other companies. I agree there are some that are very expensive. I do agree that those that are, most of their work looks wonderful! I am looking into seeing Franklin Square now. The a few others are looking good but I can see paying close to 10k for pics? It's important but is this normal?

i being a guy felt this way also...but i knew it was worth it. we got our proofs back and loved them. video (wild rose) i would give my life because i know deep down, they will make the best video that anybody can make with our wedding...

money is replaceable...your wedding is not.

Don't let people talk you out of your gut feeling. Remember, there is a reason why you booked them and not the 2nd photog. And, if you are going to spend the money, may as well get who you LOVE.

Also, you will always have the photos. Just be a little more cost conscience about other things. Or give up one luxury item that you can do without. That's what I did! I am only getting one limo instead of a seperate car for FH and I...I'm saving over $500. Little things like that will save a lot, and you will not feel so bad about spending so much on the photog.

You have to trust you made the right decision and go with that. Yes, It is so much money but hey that is what LI weddings are all about right?? My family in Florida thinks I am CRAZY for spending all of this money. They have no clue what a real wedding is, ours is very cheap in comparison to others on here.

Trust your gut and be happy with your decision!

as long as you're not refinancing your house (like magdalena!) or having to take out a loan to pay for it, go for it.

this is the one area i feel it's crucial to be happy with.

if anything, look into only having one photog and drop the second.

How much money are we talking about here? How much were your other options?

If we are talking double or triple for a minimal improvement over other vendors.. It might not be a good idea.

Of course, many times you get exactly what you pay for. If they are leagues above the rest for the money they are charging you, it's a clear cut choice between quality and cost.

I totally agree!! We went over budget for our photo too and after we wrote the check we had 'buyers remorse' too, I think it's natural though. I KNOW if there is anything you should splurge on... it's definitely photo.

ETA: Congrats...FSP does beautiful work!

Thanks for your words of encouragement, everybody. I originally posted this a couple of weeks ago, and since then I have become much, much happier with our decision. So has FH...I think he was initially suffering from sticker shock as well.

I went into this saying that photography and video were most important to me because they are how the wedding will be preserved for years and years, so I know we made the right decision by 'splurging' a bit in this area. Years from now, I will still be happy with this decision.

But I still can't believe how expensive weddings are in general!

You will be very happy with FSP. They are awesome and they are sooooo worth the money! You made a great choice and don't feel bad about it at all!!
