Need a little advice from my fellow newlyweds!

This past week I sent out Thank You notes to the few guests that did not give us a wedding gift, but attended our wedding. I realize it's a bit late, but I figured that at least I was sending a thank you card. Anyway, I wrote a little note about how nice it was to see them, thanks for coming and hope they had as much fun as we did, enclosed a picture and mailed them out. Today I get home from work and there is a message from one of the couples (my MIL's friend) saying she received the 'lovely note and picture' but she can't remember if she sent us a wedding gift and would we please call her and be honest with her she wants to rectify the situation. I ALMOST DIED!!! I did not send a thank you note as a reminder that she didn't send us a gift, I just wanted to thank her and her husband for sharing such an important day with us.

NOW WHAT DO I DO???? Do I call her and tell her the truth? Should I call my MIL (since it's her friend) and see what she thinks? Should I have my MIL call her friend?

Has this happened to any of you guys? What should I do???

TIA!

Re: Need a little advice from my fellow newlyweds!

I'd either:

1. have my MIL call her since it's her friend

or

2. call her myself (since she asked for a phone call) but explain that it's really okay about the gift situation and that I just wanted to send her a token from the day that she shared with us...

She can't remember if she sent you a wedding gift? I seriously have never had that happen but okay, but then for her to actually admit it to you...wow.

I really don't know how I would handle it! I agree you didn't send out the thank you as a reminder, that's a tough one! I think maybe I would just say, 'Oh, yes, thank you so much, that was very kind of you to think of us!' and try to make the convo short and sweet. Perhaps ask your MIL what she thinks? I'm so sorry I'm not much help, but I'd love to hear what others have to say!

That's a sticky one
I would probably call her or better yet wait to see if she calls again, then you could tell her that you really appreciate the gesture however there is no need to give a present. If she insist then let her send you one.
