Real Estate Career question???

Hello,

I don't post here often but I have a question for licensed real estate agents...

I graduated from college two years ago and am currently working as a Litigation Legal Assistant for the past year. I accepted the offer with the ambitions to go to law school and thought firm life before law school would give me a greater outlook in the path in which my career should go. Fast forward a year! I ABSOLUTELY HATE FIRM LIFE and decided I may not want to go to law school!

I have recently discoverd my passion for Real Estate and I am higly considering changing fields. Now my question is, how do I 'break' into the business. What qualifications do I need? What kind of person is prosperous in this field? Where can I go to take the required 45 hour course before registering for the licensing exam?

Really any information you could give me would be a great help!!!

TIA

Re: Real Estate Career question???

I just received a booklet from Nassau Community College for adult education that is offering Real Estate Classes that is held on a couple of Saturdays in either October or December ( I think). Once you get your real estate license you can go to almost any agency and get a job. Good Luck! Hope this info helped a little.

Re: Real Estate Career question???

This is what I did - Even though I didnt go through with it.

Go to interview with C21 American homes or another real estate agent and see what they have to say.....

A lot of the agents will offer you free on the job training and also give you a discount for the real estate course and test. That is what C21 American homes offered me.

I decided against being an agent because there is a large amount of work that needs to be done other than showing houses and selling houses that I didnt want to do, and that included cold calling, and going to peoples houses and asking them if they were interested in selling...I also shy'd away from it because I heard that you do not make any money for the first 5 months plus....and there were a few other things that steered me away from real estate.

There are also other fields in the real estate business that you could get into including, closings and appraisals. I hear the people that do that make good money

Re: Real Estate Career question???

There is a place called the American Real Estate school in Hauppauge - look them up on line and you can register for the class..they have locations in Nassau and Suffolk. That is the 45 hour class, then you take the class exam, then the state one that is offered in Hauppauge (and Manhattan).

RETC also offers the 45hr class in Bayside and Woodbury. They have a website with the schedule. You dont need any qualifications to take the class or become an agent..Once you take the course and pass the state test, the company will train you. DH is an agent for Century21-Laffey (so am I but I really dont go into the office) They are always looking for new people. It really takes time to build up contacts and make good $$, it also has alot do with referrals.

Let me know if you need any other info.
