I need a clone of myself (and some serious mood-altering products)!!! LONG

this weekend is going to be a very emotional weekend for me and my family, but particularly for me.

on Friday I am cooking a Welcome Home dinner for my brother- he was honorably discharged from the Marine Corps after serving 4 years and two stints in Iraq. he was awarded countless medals for bravery and valor, and I can't wait to make him his favorite dish and thank him for his service and GOD for his safe return.

on Saturday I am taking my girls to brunch at my fav place in Astoria (fAtty's) and then they are FINALLY getting measured for their dresses. then that night we are taking my MOH out for some fun for her birthday.

Now Sunday is going to be particularly stressful b/c that is the day that my parents and his mom will officially meet (10 years after we started dating ) we are having a bbq with our parents and siblings at his brothers house. my main issue is that I don't get on very well with fh's SIL, so I forsee some irritation and perhaps some off-handed comments from her at some point.

I will be preparing all of the food and bringing it there. I will definitely have additional posts about this day...but if any of you ladies wonder why I am stressing so much, it's because of that. I am really very nervous!!

Re: I need a clone of myself (and some serious mood-altering products)!!! LONG

First, Thank God for your brother's safe return and discharge. FH's best friend (and BM) is currently in Iraq, and is 'packing up' to return home Sept or Oct.

Have a great time with the girls!!!

And as far as FH's SIL...though I do not know her, I am sure there will be enough other people and enough going on that even if she says something, it won't be noticed. Just remind yourself of why you're all getting together. I had a few issues w/ my FMIL when we went looking at BM dresses, and each thing she said I just let roll off my back. My MOH was VERY proud of me!!

Good Luck!! And let us know next week howq things go!!!

Wow jess!!! You have a busy weekend ahead of you!! Congrats to your brother, he should be very proud of himself!! I'm sure everything will work out great with your parents meeting his mom and as for your FSIL, try to ignore her comments as not to cause some drama on that day! We're all here for you if you should need to vent this week!! Wishing you the best of luck this weekend and I'll have to wait until next Wednesday to find out how it goes... me and FH are off for a long weekend to Pennsylvania (Sat - Wed)!

ETA: Oh and I am sure you will have a great time will all your BM's and MOH this weekend too!!

Jess! A for your brother and your family!

JMO: As far as the FH's SIL - keep yourself occupied with him, his parents, your parents, your brother, and the food - stay away from her and don't let your happiness deplete b/c of her.

I know this upcoming weekend will be stressful and emotional for you, but its filled with such wonderful things that you should just go with the flow, and enjoy every moment of it. It's so great that your brother is coming home and it's so sweet of you to cook his favorite meal. Don't worry about your families meeting. If your FSIL says anything, it is just going to reflect badly on her. Really, you have such an exciting weekend coming up that you should just enjoy it all and don't worry about a thing.

Re: I need a clone of myself (and some serious mood-altering products)!!! LONG

Thanks ladies. I know for the most part it will be wonderful, if exhausting, but she REALLY gets under my skin. She always makes herself look bad, but she pisses me off in the process.

also, though all of these years I have ground my teeth and opted to take the high road, my sister would have not one moments hesitation in telling her off (my brother knows her a little better and can't really stand her either)...I will just try to keep it very light and mellow...and not let her make any speeches!

Continue to take the high road - the view is better from up there

Aww Jess, first of all I'm so happy that your brother is finally coming home. I know how stressfull that is, our moms didn't meet for a long time and to this day they haven't been in the same place for more than an hour.
Everything will be fine, hang in there. Don't let anything or anyone ruin that day for you.

Jess,

That is wonderful that your brother is coming home! He is amazing and I am sure that it is going to be a wonderful reunion.

As for your FSIL, just ignore her. Don't let her stress you out... focus on the good and continue to take the high ground.

Good luck. I am sure everything will go well. FH and my parents just met last weekend and I was soooooooo freakin nervous I downed like 2 glasses of wine just to calm myself down. It went so great; I could not have asked for a better day! As for FH SIL ( I think that's right) just ignore her - this day is about you, FH, and your parents - not her!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: I need a clone of myself (and some serious mood-altering products)!!! LONG

thanks everyone. I will try my best to ignore her- I have a feeling though that fh AND FBIL will strangle her if she does anything, so that may keep her quiet..

anyway, you are all right- it's ALL about ME (uh, oh yeah, FH too! LOL)

btw, I realized I also neglected to inform you ladies of the other reasons I am nervous- there is a language issue bet. my mom and fh's mom (english v. spanish) AND my mom is 48 and fh's mom is 72!!!! so they is a cultural and generational gap- this is part of the reason we've never introduced them before.

First...I am so happy to hear that your brother is coming home!

second, try not to stress about the situation w/ parents meeting (Mine has not met his father and stepmother yet either after 7 years and probably will not meet until the wedding ). It will all be fine you'll see. My parents met his mom finally last thanksgiving and I was so stressed about it, and it wound up working out fine. Afterwards I wondered why I was so stressed. It'll be okay

My mom is 62 and speaks mostly Greek and old-school, FH's mom is 48 and speaks English (very Americanized). b/c of this my mom and FMIL don't talk much. It's better that way
