Repost....Black tie wedding

Me and DH were invited to a black tie wedding. Can DH wear a nice suit or must he wear a tuxedo? And what should i wear? Never been to one and i am clueless about what to do.

So if any of you had a black tie affair or been to one advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

If it's 'Black Tie' and not optional, than he 'should' wear a tux. I personally feel a dark suit would be apprpriate too, but other people may not agree. For you, BT implies that you should wear your most formal dress, preferably a gown- though I've been to BT events recently where people wore cocktail length dresses.

JT has always worn a tux to black tie events we've gone to, but there were always a handful of men in black suits. As for the women, maybe HALF had on gowns, the rest had on knee-length dresses. Honestly, I didn't realize what ANYONE was wearing at my wedding, so if he wears a black suit, who's going to really care?
