Great Idea Instead of Placecards
I attended a wedding this summer. In Lieu of placecards, there was a large beautiful ornate gold frame on a pedestal .Inside all names were typewritten alphabetically in a list, and the table number was next to it. It was so simple and not confusing for us as guests. They were type written on approximately on 4 pages....and centered within the frame. It was the 1st time I saw it done in this manner and it looked gorgeous.
Ex.
Allen, Bob & Guest.........Table 7
Bella, Sal & Guest.........Table 9
Cico, Mr. & Mrs.Paul......Table10

When I saw it....I was like WOW what a beautiful idea. I also thought about the relatively low cost of making this as opposed to traditional place card holders....and especially ornate ones. It just seemed so organized. I was impressed and wondered why people didn't do this before.

Ooooh that definately sounds great. These were4- 8"x12" papers in a huge frame but a pic wouldn't fit in there. They were almost edge to edge if you know what I mean. However if you purchased a larger frame or cut the paper to a smaller size it would work. It would look BEAUTIFUL!

Wow, that's a great idea! It probably looks so much nicer than all those little cards everywhere. Everyone always seemed so confused looking through to find their name. I'm definately going to check into this. Thanks for the tip!

busting in on your board 
just wanted to say that we did this for our wedding in june and it worked out GREAT! we did a slightly simpler one then you're talking about though....
i just used regular sized paper ( like 8 1/2 by 11) and typed up the names the way you were saying, then trimmed them a little and put them in nice 8 x 10 frames.... we had 2 of them.
my aunt is in caterering and had told me how much easier this was than having a couple hundred place cards... and i had a few people tell me after the wedding how nice it was and REALLY easy to do yourself in microsoft word

I am going to start playing around with MS word with my guest list. There are so many pretty fonts you can use. I am going to call the bride who did this and get the details from her. SHe had 4 - 8.5x11 pages and the pages were centered in the frame. Two at the top. Two and the bottom.
There really can't be much more to it than what I saw. That's why I so love this Idea. Elegant but simple.
