Hair Ideas for extremely thick straight hair?

I have REAAAALLLY thick straight hair - it doesn't hold a curl well (though with lots of pins and hairspray, it can make a nice curly updo) - but I'd like something different for my wedding.

Any of you ladies have hair like this? What did you/will you do for your wedding?

Instead of regular curls, I would do Barrel Curls. Barrel curls are what the above picture are.
