Re: Has anyone had someone invite themselves to your wedding?

We did. they invited themselves and their children.

We let it go for the adults because they are DH's 1st cousins who were overlooked because of ancient family drama. We just neglected to add them to the list I guess because of 'out of sight, out of mind'. (I felt TERRIBLE about it because I didnt' even know that these people existed until I got the 'why weren't we invited' phone call)

They mentioned that they wanted to come and planned their trip to come from Chicago to NJ.

We allowed the couple, but told them that unfortunately their 12 year old and 4 year old could not attend. They made alternative arrangements for their children. All attended the ceremony. The mom and dad attended the reception.

but what if it were more than just an issue of the PP cost? what if the room you had booked only held a certain amount of people and you were already WAY over that # (and praying for no's)

Re: Has anyone had someone invite themselves to your wedding?

because they were his cousin (and spouse) I would have still allowed it.

But, I saw from another one of your posts that this is an acqaintance...in that case, it would be a big, fat NO. Of course, don't expect to ever talk to those people again, though

Re: Has anyone had someone invite themselves to your wedding?

I have had two people invite themselves and I politely say that we are having a small wedding and inviting only close friends and family.

FH definitely needs to say something.

Re: Has anyone had someone invite themselves to your wedding?

We actually had 3....

2 were people that my parents knew and my parents had been invited to their kids weddings so we just added them to the list (it's my parent's dime anyway)

The 3rd was a person that lives around the corner from us....I had no intention of inviting her. I told her that we are doing something small with family and close friends....I got the sense that she thought she fell into the 'close friend' catagory which blows me away, but when she didn't get an invitation it was pretty clear. I'm sure her feelings are hurt, which makes me feel bad, but I don't know this woman that well and I don't really like her that much. She'll get over it or not - not to sound too cold.

I think when he doesn't get an invite in the mail he will get the hint and have to cancel his trip.

Re: Has anyone had someone invite themselves to your wedding?

I can't believe people go as far as buying a plane ticket! Did he really buy one, or is he just saying it to see if he was invited or not? People can do crazy things, but I agree, you're FH needs to speak to him. Can you talk to him about it, or is he definitely now inviting him?

Re: Has anyone had someone invite themselves to your wedding?

I never assume that I am invited to a wedding until I get an STD or an invitation. There is social grace and there is social buffoonery.

Re: Has anyone had someone invite themselves to your wedding?

I just dont understand how people automatically assume they are invited-especially when they havent received an invite-I could see family but not others

not me, FH can do it - including hand write his address on the envelope

ETA: but he has to get his address first. he's such a great 'friend' that FH has absolutely no info on this guy, including his email address

he definitely bought the tickets. FH keeps saying 'it's my fault, but there's nothing I can do'
