Aww Beth, I'm so sorry to hear that your experiment isn't going well and that your advisor isn't much help!! Is there someone else who can advise you? You'll be collaborating with someone in the fall, so that should make things better. It's not too far away, and it should bring back your love of neuroscience again. Hope it all works out!!! You've got a very bright future ahead of you, don't give up now just bc of a bad advisor. Just imagine where we'd be if everyone did that. Perk up, it'll be all right!!

Re: NWR-a little sad...(LONG)

My Fi is also getting his PhD at UMD (his is suppose to be finishing ANY DAY NOW!)....It has been the longest haul ever....getting a PhD is very difficult. I feel for you and understand what you are going through. Try to stick with it. And if you need someone to talk to....you can FM me anytime...

And remember just because you have a PhD is neuroscience does not mean you have to go to Acadamia or do Neuroscience. Having a PhD in anything opens many doors and it will work out in the end...so for now try to focus more on getting the degree and less on what you will do when you finish...

I hope I was helpful...hang in there.

Re: NWR-a little sad...(LONG)

im really sorry to hear that you feel this way, it sounds like your teacher is bringing you down.

do you remember the times when you had an enthusiastic teacher, and even the most boring topics were interesting? i had a teacher made me go into the bottom of a dirty tank of a ship to fix a valve (went to a maritime college) he was SO excited to see me get my hands dirty, and he was so entertaining, the class that i was dreading became my favorite!

it seems like your professor is pretty much bringing your morale down. although i have no experience in your frield, you have worked very hard to make this degree happen and I really think you need to stick with it and get a new teacher as soon as possible.
