RP from 06: how to tell people that...`

they're not invited.
I have 11 classmates. we have been together for every class everyday for 5 years. but I cannot afford to invite them and their partners. i am only inviting 1 (my man-of-honor) b/c he is my best friend.
i am not that close w/ any other of them. but i know they are assuming they will all be invited.

1of my other classmates is getting married a month and a half before me and i know that she'll be inviting everyone (for her- money is no object).

i was thinking about telling them that we're having a small wedding- only family and close friends (which is the truth).
do you think they will be insulted?
what would be an appropriate way to convey this information? sitting them all down? only telling them if they ask?
i know the questions will start coming next week when school starts..

TIA

I would make a point to keep talking about how SMALL your wedding will be and how you're paying for everything yourselves.

that's what I did at work... it is true in my case. we're only having around 60 ppl at our wedding.

IMO, even if that is not the case with you, it would be a white lie.

one of my vendors told me that when you plan your wedding you just have to piss some people off. There is no way to please everyone. So I think you should tell your friends the truth- the wedding is small and you cannot afford to invite a lot of people. If they are really your friends, they'll understand. If they get mad, forget them! They weren't your friends anyway.
