Vanderbilt Mansion, Oakdale brides

What are you all doing about the dance floor.... I love the Vanderbilt, but one thing that sits werid with me is the dance floor right down the middle... I feel like it looks narrow & people will be dancing right next to everyones tables. Am I crazy? Has anyone BEEN or HAD their wedding there already & it was fine?? Thx!

Re: Vanderbilt Mansion, Oakdale brides

Minimum on a sat night is 125... Pricing for sat night is 125 or 135 depending on what style. I don't know the mins for the other days, but I think they are slightly less.

mooncusp22 -- I've only seen it set up, not been to a wedding there, but originally had the same concern. I've gotten over it now only bc I decided i had to trust maryanne that that is the best set up. I also did a search here and read a bunch of commentary on it -- and one VM bride attended a wedding there before hers and said she left not worried at all! I also refuse to give up sitting at the sweetheart table in front of the mantle. I think there is no other place we should be
... and I don't know how else to do the dance floor without moving where we sit.

Re: Vanderbilt Mansion, Oakdale brides

The one option that I recall Maryann offering was that of moving two of the tables closest to the entry door up to the front of the room in the aisle (right in front of the SH table).

That would make the back end of the room the dancefloor right around the DJ/Band. I kind of though it might be weird for guests to wade through the dancefloor to get to the restrooms - esp the ones with a few years (or a few beers) under their belts...

Re: Vanderbilt Mansion, Oakdale brides

She also told me some people have made one of the sides of the T next to the mantle the dance floor, and put the DJ/band in front of the mantle. Then the sweetheart table goes on one of the sides in the longer length of the room. Maryann said the set up in the middle is what they find works best though. I know having it in the middle is different and I probably will worry when my day gets a little closer, but I guess I feel like part of the beauty of that place is how unique it is. I see all the pics of that room set up and I just picture FH and I at the sweetheart table. If I could rearrange it and still have us there -- and not blocked by other tables in front of us -- I might consider it. But, I'm stuck on it.

mooncusp22 -- if you end up setting it up a different way, let us know!

Re: Vanderbilt Mansion, Oakdale brides

The center dance floor is really bigger than you imagine. When It is all set up that day it works fine. I had 110 guests and I was able to take out the two bottom tables on the one side of the room. This made the dance floor a little bigger. But really there is more room than you would think.
