OMG!! Got a BOUNCED check!!

When we returned from Jamaica, and made all of our gift deposits, I checked the account on Wed., and there was a return fee on the account. I knew we didn't use the account while on honeymoon, so I called the back and they told me it was for a check I deposited that had insufficient funds ! They said they would send me a copy of the check...needless to say, I got it today, and it was a check from my mom's cousin that used to take care of us when we were little!!

So I told my mom, and she was like, 'you're gonna get charged for that', and I told her too late we already did!! I asked her what to do, and she said, 'you gotta call her'!

How do you call someone to tell them their check bounced and that you got charged for it???

Any one else have this problem? How do you phrase it? what happened? did the person give you the bounce fee too?? HELP??

There was a thread on this, I'll try to bump for you...you're not alone! Luckily, that didn't happen to us but that's cause most guests gave cash...it's a bit nutty, no?

It's possible she didn't realize the money wasn't in the account or meant to transfer it and didn't do it in time. Give her a call. I'm sure she would be embarrassed but would make you whole.

Some people do not keep any eye on their checking accounts and have a habit of letting this happen and fixing it after.

or it very well could be a BANK error. My bank bounced my MORTGAGE payment when the funds were certainly there , the morons, they wrote a letter to my mortgage company apologizing for their error. Embarrassed or not, she has to be told and she will see it on her statement too. there is a bounced check fee to the person who wrote the check too, so Im sure she knows. Good luck.

I got a bounced check from somebody that was somewhat 'important' at my wedding.

I am not going to go into this further except that I still haven't seen another check and this person knows they bounced it.

This person also didn't come alone either... and also went to my rehersal and didn't come alone to that either!!!!!!

Person is not on 'my side' so I am not getting involved.

we got one bounced check too. They charged us a $10 fee. We havent said anything to the couple. We were hoping they would bring it up and apologize or something, but its been 4 weeks and they never called. SIL said i should send a copy of the check in my Thank yous and say, thank you for sharing our special day, unfortunately your check bounced, so we enclosed a copy. I said i cant be that mean lol. She said that she would also add a note, By the way you owe us $10 lol.

I want to do this soooooo bad. But since this is somebody on my wife's side... I know she is just going to say to 'drop it'.

Totally wrong because between the wedding and the rehersal... this person accounted for SIX plates total!

Thank god it was for only 2 plates for us, but its still ****** for someone to do!!!!!! I really have no idea on what to write in there thank you.

I think the bank tries t put it through twice. if it didnt work, she probably doesnt have the money.

Personally I wouldnt do anything about it. Id wait to see if she asks you why didnt you deposit my check. If she doesnt say anything I'd just leave it alone.

You all know that you can actually attempt to re-deposit a bounced check. Just don't get upset if it bounces again and you get tagged for another $10 buks or whatever it is.

but the bank sends a photocopy to me, so wouldn't the original go back to the bouncee...can't re-deposit a copy, huh??

ok, here's the skinny...her daughter, trying to save mom time, wrote the check on her account (didn't notice her name was under my cousin's name, too), she is too mad!! she says she's going to kick her daughter's butt for making me pay a fee, and will add the fee x3 to the check and her daughter will have to pay for it!

feel bad for my young cousin, but whoooohoo, we get 30 more bucks!!!

just tell her since she is close to you it shouldnt be hard to mention - we had your check returned ....
