Spin-off to Dream Job...

Anyone started to change how they feel about working, careers, etc. since getting engaged?

All of a sudden I LOVE babysitting - I made 50 bucks last night watching the VMA's!

And I think about how nice it would be to have a part-time job - like three days a week - and maybe stay home!!!

If you knew me, you'd know this was NEVER anything I wanted.... I'm getting scared!!!!!

I keep asking FH... 'When can I go part-time?'

Re: Spin-off to Dream Job...

Actually, I am thinking more about money and how we will live. I grew up not wanting for anything and as I got older, I knew that I would not be able to give my children half of what my parents were able to give us. I made a promise to FH that I would actively seek a higher paying teaching job for the 2006-2007 school year in a public school. I already work in a dangerous part of the city, I could work across the street and make about 15 K more and NOT work summers - though I am sure I will. I think I have been in the workforce too long to consider being a SAHM. Id go buck nutty staying home all day and Gymboree classes would make me puke.

Re: Spin-off to Dream Job...

It truly has become different for me but I have something brewing...FH is in the process of acquiring a restaurant & going into business himself. Once we are established with that, I told him I am working part-time! I love my job now, but I am getting bored & want to spend 1/2 my day doing what I want to do!

I always knew I wanted to be a stay at home mom, but I want my 1/2 of days prior to that

Re: Spin-off to Dream Job...

that is so funny-I have never wanted to stay home or do anything then what I do now..and I hate it lately-I also feel like when I have kids there is no way I will work until the baby can talk...I was never like that .

I would change carrers in a minute if I knew what I wanted to do.

Re: Spin-off to Dream Job...

really, right now I just want to make more money. I work for the federal government, and though I am not poor, I could be making A LOT more money in the private sector. the worst thing about it is that for the most part, I like my job, but I really want to help make a good life for us- I want to buy and house and be able to keep our nice car and vacationing habits....maybe I am being greedy, but I can't help it.

I am planning on going back to school- having a bachelors, even in the gov't is like having a HS diploma.

Re: Spin-off to Dream Job...

my working days are numbered...my FH just opened his own office this summer and if thing keep going as well as tey have been, I might go sell real estate ( part time) until we have a baby- then I wont be working anymore

I have shot up the corporate ladder pretty quickly- but I am so over it- I used to dream of the day I got promoted to VP- now I dream of the day I get to stay home

Re: Spin-off to Dream Job...

Yeah, I've thought about it...will it happen, NEVER.

I make almost 3-4 x's of what FI makes...will that ever change? No, not unless he wins the Lotto.

I've always wanted to be a 'Career Woman' and never imagined being married or having children.

I can say positively now that it has changed - I am getting married, but still do not want to have children. If we do decide to have children, it'll be later down the line, and I plan on returning to work full time shortly afterwards.

I can't imagine working part time. Perhaps it's b/c of my upbrining, or more over the industry I work for (Finance.)

Working on the Trading Floor everyday, I have yet to see a Woman who has a child and then returns full time, and if they do, they're never 100% of where they were before they left. It's the mentality around here I guess.

Re: Spin-off to Dream Job...

I've been thinking a lot about this lately. More so, because I've been contemplating a completely new career.
I kind of fell into my job. And while the field has been great to me salary, vacation, benefit wise, I just don't like coming to work every day. It's also not the type of job where having a family is all that easy either. Because I want to have a family so badly, I've really got to start making some decisions.
