Re: Collecting Gifts??? Gift Table????
I think a gift table is pretty customary (I got a card box for mine), but I should hope that nobody would need to watch over it!

Re: Collecting Gifts??? Gift Table????
We were originally going to get a card box at Party City (I think it was $29.99). It was white and looked like a treasure chest. But I just recently went to a local party store and they had this really cool mailbox looking thing decorated in white tulle with flowers and ribbons on a white stand that was decorated, too. It looked very pretty and I figured we could rent it for the night. I believe it was $35 to rent.

I just carried a money bag. The two people who brought gifts...grrr...left them on top of the piano.

I think money bags are a regional/cultural thing. You'll need something if you're doing some form of the money dance. We're having table for boxed gifts. We are not having a card box because my in laws find it offensive (too impersonal) I'll have something under out table to put and cards in.

We're going to have our card box on a table next to ours, also with the Wish Bowl. If anyone brings gifts they can add it to the table or put it underneath.

Why not? You'd rather leave envelopes with potentially thousands of dollars in a box on a table no one is looking at? No thank you! I would assume you're safe with your guests but there are lots of people in and out at weddings and I wouldn't feel safe leaving all that money unattended. Besides most people want to hand you their cards. Are you going to stop chatting with your guests and take it over to the box? Trust me you won't have time for that.
And it's not like you're carrying around a rolling suitcase. Just a little satin bag.
edited to say I did NOT do a money dance!

my parents also find it offensive...I don't...but I'll have a small shopping bag under the dais.

In the end I used an old purse that was pretty big and just left it under the table. Most of the cards were given to my husband, who made regular trips to drop off checks.
We received 4 boxed gifts at the wedding, most people just had them sent to my home.
I think we'll find that about half of the couples gave us an envelope, about 1/3 gave us a gift. The rest haven't gotten us anything -- which is fine, some people really couldn't afford to give more.

Re: Collecting Gifts??? Gift Table????
i won't carry a bag--i don't like the idea or the look of a bride carrying a bag full of money. no box/bird cage either.i'll keep a bag near the dais or with a relative who will be sitting and will deposit envelopes as i go along.
