Catholic Bride Question
I have a question for all you Catholic brides out there who are getting married in a church. Are you having a full mass? Part of me doesn't want the full mass, because I don't want to have my guests sit through that. Plus I just want to get to the party ASAP! But I know my mother kind of wants me to have a full mass and everyone keeps telling me how lovely they are. It would only be 15 mins more.

Re: Catholic Bride Question
I say go for what feels right. If you think it would make you mother happy do the full mass. It is only 15 min.

Re: Catholic Bride Question
OK, this has been a HUGE dilema in my planning. I was brought up catholic (13 years of catholic school), so was my fiance. BOTH my parents are VERY involved in the church, eucharistic ministers, lectors, and my mom heads the choir. His dad and step-mom are the same.
However, we both do not attend church regularly. I DO NOT feel I am being real to myself if I have a full mass. Yes, I plan on getting married in the church, with a priest, etc. But if I say my vows and have a full mass I will feel fake. Maybe if I attended mass on a regular basis, that would be a different story.
Plus, like you, I don't want to make my non-catholic friends sit through a mass. It doesn't seem fair.
Just remember-it's YOUR wedding day. Don't do anything on that day for anyone but you and your fiance.

Re: Catholic Bride Question
I didn't mean to sound so rude! YIKES! I'm just kind of passionate about this whole thing since it's been a big topic lately and his dad seemed kind of disappointed when he told him we weren't having a full mass.
It's just as beautiful either way. I've been to both.
It just all comes down to what you want, what you believe in and how you want your day.
didn't mean to offend anyone before!!

Re: Catholic Bride Question
We are doing a full mass because we feel that this is the most important, meaningful part of the day. This is when we will become married in the eyes of God and this is really what's being celebrated.

Re: Catholic Bride Question
We are doing s full mass. We are not allowed to get married in the church if we dont, PLUS I think it makes it more official....I just feel like a short ceremony isnt as personal FOR ME...I know that some love them, and they can be beautiful, but I want a long mass.

Re: Catholic Bride Question
I say do what you feel is right. We did not have a full mass because I am not Catholic but I am happy. I feel it is too long.

Re: Catholic Bride Question
Yes, I am having a mass. This is very special for us, it's one of the 7 sacraments. To make it even more special, we are involving as many friends and family in the ceremony. Please share your programs.

Re: Catholic Bride Question
We are having a full mass. I figured if we are not having a mass then why even bother getting married in the church. It is a sacrament so I want to celebrate it that way. I know some of my friends will complain but you know what I'd sit through it for them so they can do the same!

Re: Catholic Bride Question
We are having the full mass. The most important part of getting married is the ceremony, not the party, flowers, limos all that is the extras. Don't rush it, it's only 15-20 mins. more, people won't be bored! It only comes once

Re: Catholic Bride Question
We were going to have a full mass, but then felt that we would rather have our ceremony be a little shorter. In all honesty, it really doesn't make that much of a difference - it's only adding Communion and some more readings. It's your day, so do what feels right to you!

I probably would have had the full mass but on Sat they only do it before 12am. So I am having just ceremony & Communion.

Re: Catholic Bride Question
I'm having a full mass with readings in Greek and Italian, plus saying a decade of the Rosary to honor Mary since my wedding day is on the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary. I'm assuming it will be an hour to an hour and 15 minutes long.
I am a practicing Catholic and very active in my church including being on the Parish Council. It's what I want to do and if there are some who feel it's too long, they can always walk out and come back for the ceremony. I wouldn't be offended.

Not to be rude, but this is YOUR day, not your friends, your decision shouldn't be made b/c you don't want your friends to have to sit through it. JMHO

Re: Catholic Bride Question
I am just doing the ceremony. I have been to weddings that are full masses and I think it takes away from the ceremony. I also don't want my guests to have to sit there for a whole mass. But like everyone else said it is your day and you do what works best for you and FH. Good luck. Either choice will be a great one.

Re: Catholic Bride Question
We're doing the full mass. I think its nice and it also gives us the opportunity to involve some important people in our ceremony. (doing the readings and presenting the gifts)

We're doing the full mass as well. Mostly because of my mom. She suggested it.

Re: Catholic Bride Question
Definitely a full mass! You only get married once!
It's also a great way to include more people to do readings and whatnot!!!
