Re: NWR - does yoga really work to help you lose weight?

no because its not enough cardio, your heart isnt going fast enough. its more of a relaxation and stress reducer (stress causes weight gain)....

You really need to do cardio and weight tranining as well.
I was working out for a long time, and was starting get bulky muscles. I started doing Yoga and pilates and it made my arms more lean and defined. It also does wonders for your stomach. I really enjoy both! I take classes at my gym. Pilates works you out more. Yoga is more relaxing, but not easy.

Re: NWR - does yoga really work to help you lose weight?

yoga is awesome because you are using your body to work against. So rather than bulking up like with weights (bulking up is used lightly), you are stretching and strengthening your muscles. you develop strength. with strength comes muscles. with more muscle than fat comes more caloric burning. so yes, it can help you lose weight in that you are burning fat and calories throughout the day by building muscle. but for more intense calorie burning, you need cardio as well.

Re: NWR - does yoga really work to help you lose weight?

Yoga is more of a strength and stretch workout, than a cardio and weight class.

Cardio keeps your heart in shape and your metabolism going so that you can lose weight, and weight lifting (Light routine) stimulates your muscle to burn more and build more muscle.

If you're looking for a Yoga type of 'class' I suggest Pilates....Pilates is similar to yoga as far as some of the moves go, but is more of a strengthening class and really tones you up.

But if you're into Yoga, I suggest alternating it with a 30 minutes cardio routine and a few light weight lifting.

I'm a member of NYSC and both classes are offerred.
