Can anyone please send me FM on some quotes you have gotten for Bora Bora, etc. I'm just wondering if me and FH can afford something like that.

Re: French Polynesia (Tahiti, Bora Bora, etc.) Honeymoons!!!!!!
i just got back from french polynesia. we spent 2 nights at the intercontinental in papeete, tahiti. it is an absolutely beautiful hotel. but the food isn't great and breakfast for 2 people costs $73!! not worth it at all. i wound up filling my plate with bacon and sausage and feeding it to the cats who live there. they are adorable by the way. there is a lady who sits by the pool and sells tahitian jewelery--she is VERY expensive!! keep in mind that 100 FPX is equal roughly to $1 when looking at prices. bargain with her if you buy things, but you'll find stuff much cheaper elsewhere. i bought some stuff and was kicking myself when i went to roadside stands in bora bora and moorea!
the pools at the intercontinental are gorgeous, but there is no beach access. you can get into the water if you want, but you mainly swim in the pools. i like that they let you rent a kayak for free for one hour. that was more than enough for us and we loved it.
we had an issue with our room. we had a panoramic ocean front room (decided against an overwater bungalow due to cockroach reports and water noise--and glad we did based on people we met!) which was beautiful. but when we woke up the first day there was an inch of water on our floor! very dangerous! they had to drain the water out of the air conditioner--which meant we couldn't be in our room for 2 hours.
we then got on the tahitian princess for a 12 night cruise--i'm so glad we did because i would have been bored silly in papeete! we went to bora bora, moorea, raiatea, christmas island and 4 islands in hawaii. i liked that so much better than the hotel as there was so much more to do. i toured each island on a land/sea tour and feel like i saw a lot. moorea was my favorite island by far--it's the most beautiful--i liked it much better than tahiti and bora bora even though those are the most famous of the islands.
overall, we had a GREAT time! just a few bumps at the intercontinental.
the flight was kinda miserable. air tahiti nui is great though--we had a non-stop flight there and they have personal tvs with videos and games you can play! and the food is decent. we took AA back and it was torture--absolute torture. no tvs and we were so squished. thank goodness we had an hour stopover in LA! 11 hours is a LONG LONG time to sit in a plane seat!
i can't wait to back to french polynesia! but i will DEFINITELY do it as another cruise and not stay there for a week. i saw so much more that way and got to experience a lot of local culture.
one of the couples who got married at the intercontinental (tahiti)
the sweet kitties at the dining room (they ate well while i was there!)
waterfall pool at intercontinental (tahiti)
sand bottom pool and overwater bungalows (tahiti)
hammock with moorea in background
our bed at intercontinental tahiti
our ship in moorea
us in raiatea
kayaking in tahiti
maraes in raiatea
handmade pareos in bora bora
me in bora bora

Re: French Polynesia (Tahiti, Bora Bora, etc.) Honeymoons!!!!!!
Great pictures - thanks for posting! Not many of us on here are doing a cruise...we're all pretty much doing Moorea and Bora Bora mostly. If you go back someday you should consider that instead of a cruise to experience the overwater bungalows. I don't think any of us girls on here are staying in Papeete for more than 12 hrs - I wouldn't even stay one night but we have no choice b/c the flights from NY get in so late and there's no transportation to the other islands at that hour. Papeete really is just the city island....not many people spend too much time there. Just fly in and out of there. Sounds like you thought this was the most popular island. I think Moorea and Bora Bora definitely are.
Glad you had a nice time. Love the shot of your cruise ship in Moorea. CONGRATS!!!

Take two suitcases! We stuffed everything in ONE HUGE one and it was a nightmare trying to come back to NY. It was too heavy so they made us take like 10lbs. of stuff OUT and we had to buy another bag!! It's better to have two medium sized suitcases than one big one.
As for carry-ons take one suitcase type and one backpack type. HTH!

Re: French Polynesia (Tahiti, Bora Bora, etc.) Honeymoons!!!!!!
do NOT go over 50 pounds in your suitcase or they will charge you $25 for every 25 pounds you go over. they WILL charge you as they charged friends we met on the cruise. we bought another bag in hawaii because we knew we'd be over--we wound up having to get of line and move stuff from one of my bags into another because we had gone over and i refused to pay more.
you can check 2 bags of up to 50 pounds each. definitely bring an empty duffel bag with you if you don't want to pay a surcharge.

you're welcome! i'll try to post more later on.
i really didn't want to stay in one island for more than a day. i get very bored. although i love laying by a pool, i love that i visited 9 islands in 15 days. it was an amazing experience. i had no desire to stay in an overwater bungalow. friends that we met on the cruise, who had stayed in an overwater bungalow in a different hotel, had cockroaches, lots of water noise and TONS of mosquitoes!!! we didn't have any of that--i don't remember what hotel it was, but i remember they said it was gorgeous. if you're staying in a bungalow, definitely bring bug spray!
tahiti and bora bora are the most well known--i had never heard of moorea before my trip! papeete (the capital of tahiti) it a big port and the main airport.
i hope you ladies have as great of a time as i did! someone had FMed me and asked me to do a review, but i never really looked at this thread before. i might of at the beginning, but i haven't been following along with the discussion.
have a great time ladies! bring spf 30-45 AT LEAST because the sun is strong!

I know Tahiti is popular....but I just meant the point of Tahiti is just to fly in and out of there. No one spends more than 1 - 2 nights tops there. It's certainly not "the place to stay" or anything.

Re: French Polynesia (Tahiti, Bora Bora, etc.) Honeymoons!!!!!!
good review and just to let you know there were absolutely no roaches or bugs for that matter in our owb at the ic thalasso spa on bora bora.
we did not have an issue with bugs at all.
word to the wise on booking flights.
book with air tahiti nui - travel on aa flights is awful because they do not give you half of what air tahiti nui does.
the seats are smaller too.
(my review is in the works)

Me & Fi, signed up for this to use at the interconnitnental hotels.
I spoke with the interconntinetal today and they placed notes on the reservation for an upgrade... I hope this is not bogus though it came from their website.
