To wear it or not to wear it....UPDATED with pic

I have this ring that my grandmother gave me last year that she bought years ago, with intentions of giving to my mother, but did not for personal reasons, so you can sort of say it's an heirloom with sentimental value.

Here's the thing...I was debating on whether or not to wear the ring on my wedding day. However, because it's huge (it has 32 1/5 carat diamonds and a 1 1/2 carat emerald center) it would dwarf my e-ring in comparison. My other concern would be that my grandmother was worried that if my aunt ever found out I have the ring, she would be upset because she wanted it (which I can't understand, since it was intended for my mother!!)

Should I wear it anyway since it's basically the only heirloom I have and to hell with it dwarfing my e-ring and my aunt's jealousy? ( My mother has no real jewelry to pass on to me. ) Or should I wait and see if FMIL gives me something since she has no daughters to pass anything down to?

Re: To wear it or not to wear it....

My advice is to remove everyone in question from the scenario (your aunt, your FMIL who might give you something), and remove your own feelings about your e-ring. Now you're left with just this ring that your g-mother has for you to wear. Just how important to you is it to wear THAT ring? Maybe if you look at it from that perspective, then your decision will be easier to make.
Hopefully that made sense! Haha

Re: To wear it or not to wear it....

If you love it and want to wear it, then wear it. I bet you anything that your mother would have had you wear it if she were there. This is not like being next in line for the throne of LI whereit skips people. This is something your grandmother wants to give to you. Enjoy it.

My FMIL wants me to wear a Jewish star that all the women in her family wore on their wedding days. She knows what my dress looks like and knows I can't wear it around my neck so she told me to sew it inside my dress. I will have my Daddy's WW2 dog tag on one side and the star on the other, Heirlooms should hold meaning, not cause strife.

Re: To wear it or not to wear it....

My mother will be there, and doesn't know about the ring. (She did not give it to my mom for personal reasons that I completely understand)

I would like to wear it, just wondering if it would draw more attention than my actual e-ring because of it's size!!! (Maybe I should post a pic of both rings to give an idea!)

Now you can see how the ring dwarfs my e-ring in comparison!!! It takes up almost my entire knuckle!

Re: To wear it or not to wear it....UPDATED with pic

What if you have it made into a pendant and wear it around your neck ???? - You wouldn't be changing the shape of the stones at all......just wearing it on your neck rather than your finger. -
I personally think it will take away from your Engagement ring........but it's stunning !

Re: To wear it or not to wear it....UPDATED with pic

I think my grandmother would kill me if I took it out of the setting!!! Although I do understand the point of using the stones for something else. I had actually considered using the stones to put in my e-ring or my wedding band, but then I nixed the idea.

I already have my day of jewelry, and considering my dress has a lot of detail, wearing it as a pendant might be too much bling in that area!!

The ring is beautiful-I say wear it. There is a difference in meaning between your e-ring and the ring your grandmother gave you. It can be your something 'old'
If you WANT to wear it go for it!

Re: To wear it or not to wear it....UPDATED with pic

If you like it and want to wear it I would say just go for it!! Don't worry about how it compares to e-ring. Right after the ceremony your e-ring will go back on left hand next to wedding band.
