The report also underscores that women continue to get paid less than men.

Women in the United States who are 30 to 44 and who hold a university degree -- meaning a bachelor's degree, master's degree, doctorate or medical degree -- make only 62 percent of what similarly qualified men do.

That's a lower rate than in all but three of the 19 countries for which numbers are available. The nations with greater inequity in pay are Germany, New Zealand and Switzerland.

I read women tend to make an equal amount as men with a lesser degree. So women with a bachelor degree will make an equal amount to men with a HS degree (women with masters = men with bachelor, etc).

my friend once said 'it's also better to work for a man because you'll get paid more!' (because they get paid more...)

that's why i like being a teacher - we all get paid according to a scale - not whether or not we have a penis

I wonder if this is because men are thought of as 'providers' and thus must make more to support a househould while women work for 'fun' or 'supplemental' income. Well, it's 2005 not 1955 get with it people!
I support my household and my hubby, cat and I are getting jipped!

Oh boy, now you got me started. This is indeed true and reinforces that we as women still have a long way to go. Women continue to receive less pay than their male counterparts, are viewed as aggressive and nasty when we assert ourselves, know what we are talking about and excel at what we do where as a man that is seen as strong, etc. Futhermore, the old perception of women being too emotional and weak to handle executive positions or make major decisions is still going strong. Honestly, the issue of women receiving less pay along with other womens issues such as violence against women will only end when MEN start to take a stand and speak out against this outrageous behavior.

I could go on and on but I'll just stop here.

that's a generalization, but still the majority of women still get paid less than men for the same job. My boss is probably one of the exceptions but sometimes that stems froem women underestimating their worth and being afraid to ask for more $$.

Of course, nothing applies to everyone. I was just speaking about the status of womenin general.

You're right, but we need to stand up for ourselves and not be afraid to ask for the same money for the same job.

I've heard of research that says this exactly - men are more likely to demand a raise when the budget is tight, whereas women more often take what they are offered. We all need to stand up and demand it too!
