Wedding Gifts

Ok not to sound tacky but DH and I were talking about the monitery gifts at the wedding, We made about a little over half of our money spent back, Is that the 'norm'?

Im not sure what the normal is, but DHs mom surprised us with a huge check for half the price of the wedding the day after, at our post day wedding brunch, which actually made us break even, otherwise we would have made half back, so maybe it is normal.

I really think it varies a lot -- some families don't give money only gifts. If you had a lot of out of town guests you probably will get smaller gifts, since the costs of weddings are less outside of the New York area.

We pretty much broke even. We weren't even expecting that much, so we were happy.

Us too- but we had a very small wedding.
