Digital or Film Photography?
I am going to a photographers office today and I know they use digital film I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on which they considered was a better choice either digital or film?TIA

Re: Digital or Film Photography?
there have been MANY debates on this... i would definitely do a search to find some... they had some great info...in my opinion, there are pros and cons to both and it depends what you are really looking for... we went with a digital photog because i am going to make our own album and i wanted to have all the photos in digital format already...

well said!
Additionally, a photographer who has been shooting film for their entire career is of course going to promote the use of film - and vise versa. I would be most comfortable with a photographer who knew the benefits of both and could provide you with both - if you desired.
Personally, we went with digital.

Re: Digital or Film Photography?
Use of film will give a more artistic look, you can do the grainy look or other types of effects with the camera. But it depends on if your photographer knows how to use the camera well... If he doens't, it doesn't matter which he uses - film or digital.I'm going with Duet who said they use a combination of both (mostly digital for color shots and film for b/w) and that's fine by me.

Re: Digital or Film Photography?
digital is getting reallt popular now but we went with film because fh has very sensitive eyes and digital cameras tend to flash twice causing his eyes to be half closed in every single picture.

I might be the minority on this one, but I'm a FILM person all the way.Fortunately, that's what my photographer uses, so I'm super happy!

Re: Digital or Film Photography?
I went with digital. I only met with 2 photgraphers and both used digital.I read somewhere, that Nikkon is no longer making cameras that use film. Which leads me to believe that film eventually will be obsolete.

Re: Digital or Film Photography?
This debate will never end! We went to a lot of photograpers, and learned a few things in the process. Starting out, we were looking for digital because of the versility of digital proofs and also because FH has a blinking problem and we wanted the photographer to know when to take a pic over. We also kept an open mind to film because film negatives can be scanned to digital, and then you have both. One thing I would like to point out is digital photographers can shoot in either RAW or JPEG format. RAW produces better quality pictures, but of course you pay more for it!

Re: Digital or Film Photography?
i personally prefer film, but i've seen some film photographs that looks washed out and dull, so it really depends on the photographer too.digital pictures dont look that great to me, unless the photographer goes back and edits them.

Same here, the pictures have more of a crisp clarity with film, you don't get the same effect from digital.

Re: Digital or Film Photography?
here is something i was emailed:PICTURE PERFECT
Photography is another area where brides can potentially save hundreds, if not thousands of dollars.
It's customary for wedding photographers to keep your negatives for several years and name their price for reprints.
'One of the biggest rip offs is when brides pay wedding photographers thousands of dollars to shoot their wedding and then actually buy into this baloney about the photographers owning or keeping the negatives,' said Stewart.
'I simply found a young fashion photographer who was happy to shoot my wedding at a price significantly less than any 'wedding photographer' and who gladly gave me all the negatives,' said Stewart.
Wedding photography assistant Jen Merryman said that she would never go that route.'I would really want some one who knows what they're doing,' said Merryman. 'That's just one of the things I wouldn't sacrifice on a wedding.'
Digital photography is another inexpensive option. Wedding photographer Vincent Reed of All About Photography in Severn uses a top-of-the-line digital camera that captures three to four times more detail than conventional film photography and is cheaper as well.
'It's definitely a tremendous savings because it's not costing me anything to shoot your wedding,' said Reed. He starts at under $700 to shoot a wedding, well below the national average of $1,200.
Also, Reed gives the bride her proofs on a CD-ROM. 'Your proofs are all done in TIF files so you already have your negatives.'
