Who lit a unity candle at their ceremony?

Debating about this. We're both agnostic, but for my parents I said we would break the glass. I'm thinking also of doing a unity candle to balance the ceremony out. Just wondering who did one at their ceremony.

Re: Who lit a unity candle at their ceremony?

We did it and I am glad, it was the main part of the ceremony where we could just take it all in (after the candle was lit)...I had my sister/BM play a flute solo during it as well.

Re: Who lit a unity candle at their ceremony?

candle is not a religious part of the ceremony, but is more common now, it is to unite the couple as one symbolically

Exactly! We want something non-religious but still meaningful.

We originally weren't going to do a Unity candle, but later we decided we would.

Re: Who lit a unity candle at their ceremony?

Right its to unite the families to ONE- the grooms parents light 1 taper, the brides parents light the other taper and then the priest will call you and DH up at some point to take the tapers and light the unity candle- it is soooooo nice! I love the way the pics came out too!!!

we also did the couples prayer at the end too!

Re: Who lit a unity candle at their ceremony?

No, we didn't. We had a full mass and the priest was a good friend, so I thought the homily might be long. We also did the blessing of hands at the end of the mass and I didn't really want to make it any longer. It wasn't really that important to us, so we chose not to do it.

Re: Who lit a unity candle at their ceremony?

We are not going to have a unity candle. Although it's nice part of the ceremony, our cememony is going to be a full mass. We don't want to make it any longer.

Re: Who lit a unity candle at their ceremony?

We had a unity candle to sumbollize the blending of the two families.

Both sets of parents came up to light a taper candle, and then DH's parents gave the candle to me, my parents gave the candle to him, and he and I lit the middle candle.

Re: Who lit a unity candle at their ceremony?

This is one thing my FH insisted on having and I loved the idea!! Since both my parents are walking me down the aisle I'm going to ask my grandfather to light my candle and FH's aunt to light his.
