Good area in nassau county...
Hey everyone,We're looking into buying a house, it needs to a town close to queens. I'm not familiar with long island areas so any info on the 'best' towns would be appreciated. Good school district with quiet streets preferred. Thanks...

I grew up in Oceanside and thought it was a good place to live. The schools prepared me well for college.

We just bought in Valley Stream. Our district-District 30 ranked #135 in the nation with about 10-12 other schools out of NY who ranked higher do thats not bad at all. Our block is almost too quiet..I only hear the crickets at night.

I went to Herricks and its considered a good school district, its also a nice town. I dont want my kids to go there though only because I felt like they make everything challenging for you and when applying to colleges I dont feel like it gave us an edge or anything.Williston Pk, Albertson, Roslyn(technically North Hills), parts of New Hyde Pk, Searingtown, Manhasset Hills, are all areas that fall into the Herricks School district.
I think New Hyde Park schools give you better options like letting you take college credits while still in H.S. and you can opt to take AP classes, in Herricks it wasnt your choice, you had to be recommended by your teachers.
ETA if you're willing to go out a little further from Queens, Jericho is considered one of the best schools. It was rated #1 in LI, I believe.
