Honeymoon dilema!!! Need Advice!!!!

I was talking to my travel agent on the phone just now and she said I have to pay for the hotel in full 45 days prior to leaving!! Is this right? I thought you pay the balance when you arrive.

We're going to the Sandals Regency in St. Lucia. Any advice as to if this is right or not? I told her to hold off until tomorrow.

----------------------

OK, now we're looking at other options since it seems that all the 'all inclusives' have to be paid in full 4 - 6 weeks prior. Is anyone NOT paying in full prior to departure and if so where are you going? PLEASE HELP!!

I can get the Airline tickets now and put a deposit for hotel but the rest of the hotel stay would have to be paid at time of arrival.

Re: Honeymoon dilema!!!

That could be right. Some hotels make you pay when you book even. Some 30days before and some not until you arrive.
It ususally has to do with the price.

Re: Honeymoon dilema!!!

We're going to Royal Hideaway in MX and our full balance for airfare was our deposit, and the hotel accommodations are due I believe at least one month prior to leaving.

Aida, doesn't sound as strange to me considering most of the trips I've ever booked were paid for in advance.

Isn't it all inclusive?

Re: Honeymoon dilema!!!

Yes it's all inclusive. We were hoping to pay when we got there because we both get paid the Friday before and were depending on that $$ for our HM and most vendors have to be paid in full prior to wedding. Might not be able to go on honeymoon until later or have to book last minute!!!! I'm so depressed now!!! My FI is gonna be so upset!!!

Re: Honeymoon dilema!!!

Yes, that's right. Those vacation packages are almost always paid 4-6 weeks in advance. Sorry to say..can you put it on a credit card and then pay it off when you return from your honeymoon?

Re: Honeymoon dilema!!!

The credit card isn't a bad option if you know you are going to pay it when you get back.

The full payment for my HM is due in February, I wish I could pay when I arrive!

Re: Honeymoon dilema!!!

We have to pay our TA in full 30 days before we leave. I think its pretty common to pay before you go when booking through a TA.

Re: Honeymoon dilema!!! Need Advice!!!!

put it on a credit card

it's safer, you have more recourse if something happens and might even get additional insurance depending on the card

I charged mine on my Amex- I got double pts, I have insurance if our bags get lost, stolen- money to get new clothes even if they are lost for only a few hours..etc

I have insurance if something happens to us-

credit cards are not bad if you use them right

Re: Honeymoon dilema!!! Need Advice!!!!

Which travel agent are you using? Did you ask her if this is true for every all-inclusive?

Re: Honeymoon dilema!!! Need Advice!!!!

I agree with putting it on a credit card. We got SO many airline points for a future vaca by doing this.

If you book on your own with Expedia or through a hotel directly, I believe you can pay the rest when you get to your destination. But TA's usually want it paid in full before you leave (that has been my experience).
