Re: Votive Placecard holders
Do you have to buy a certain type of glass so that the outside is not hot to the touch?I can just see everyone reaching to pick them up and then dropping them on the floor because they're too hot!

You can buy the frosted or regular votive candle holders - www.cudge.net carries them really cheap.
Then, you can use tea lights b/c the glass does not get hot, or you can use votive candles which do get warm.
It's also suggested not to light them earlier than a half hour before start of the reception to avoid this.

Tea lights it is then!
Good point about not lighting them until the reception starts. Maybe I'll have them set up on a table outside of the dinner room and near the end of the cocktail hour I'll send my assistant to light them.
Thanks!

They do look great, but do they get too hot to hold? If so, how do you avoid that?

Re: Votive Placecard holders
I used votives and they did not get too hot to the touch because the part of the votive that is not melted stays cool and they don't get lit until just before the guests are about to pick them up. Some girls say tealights don't let them get too hot also, so it's really up to you. You can test both if you want.

Re: Votive Placecard holders
I got my candles from Target. It was $3.00 for 8 (I believe). The glass is super thick. I'm going to get fancy label paper from Staples, much easier than using vellum
