A really dumb bridesmaid question
First off, everyone please forgive my questions. I'm the first amongst my friends to be engaged, & everyone in my family had a very traditional asian wedding, so I'm a little clueless as to the basics.
What is the point of bridesmaids and MOH? what do they do (besides walk down the aisle)
Thanks in advance

Re: A really dumb bridesmaid question
I believe the traditional reason for the bridesmaids is that evil things would try to harm the bride. Therefore you have a group of girls dressed similar to the bride to confuse them.
Now bridesmaids are there for delegating tasks to, the shower and such.

Re: A really dumb bridesmaid question
no need to apologize silly!!! Im so clueless on weddings I need a wedding 101 class !! BUT You do learn ALOT from this site!! Now to answer your question- I HAVE NO IDEA!! LOL I just want them because they look so pretty In pics!!! Im kidding! I do think though they are supposed to be there for you on your big day both physically and emotionally. They handle duties like planning showers/ bachelorette party, help you get dressed, etc... They will help ease your day as well- most of all they are there to share your special day with you!

Re: A really dumb bridesmaid question
LOL..great question! Well the MOH plans your bridal shower with the BMs help. They help you the day of the wedding getting dressed and making sure everything is going as planned and helping you when needed. The MOH fixes your dress and veil at the ceremony once you walk down and she holds your Bo-K. Ummm....they plan you bachelorette (sp?) party. I'm sure a few other things that I can't think of right now.

Re: A really dumb bridesmaid question
hmm interesting. My wedding won't involve a church ceremony or a veil but maybe i'll have some bridesmaids just for fun! they can still plan the bachlorette party!!
btw, what's the difference btwn the shower & the bachlorette party. are you having both or is one the same as the other?
THanks!

The shower is usually an event that happens where a few monts before your wedding where you don't know about it. They will invite everyone (women. girls) and they "shower" you with gifts.
The batchlorette party takes place closer to the wedding. Where the bridal party goes out to celebrate.

Re: A really dumb bridesmaid question
A shower is usually for your family and close friends who celebrate your new venture into marriage. This is when you family helps you out and you get all the things you need to prepare your home.
A bachlorette party is your friends and BP -and this is when you go out and party.

Re: A really dumb bridesmaid question
Here are 2 links from theknot that give more info on bridesmaids and other members of the bridal/groomsmen party. They also have interesting articles on cultural weddings (I saw your other post). Good luck!
