favor idea?

Wanted your opinion on this....

My mother is a muralist, but for 4 years she and I had our own gift shop in Bellport where we painted all sorts of gift items... My favorite thing that we did was handpainted wine glasses or champagne glasses... my FH loves them, too.... and I thought that that would be a really nice favor -- a pair of wine glasses or champagne glasses for each couple....

then my dad had this idea --- set the table at the catering hall with the painted champagne glasses, with our ribbon at the base.... and then when we do our champagen toast, guests use their favor... and take them home....

i loved the idea initially, but then thought 'hmm, then ppl are taking home a dirty glass'... I like hte idea of personalziing the place settings with the glasses if we go that route, but was wondering opinions...

then i thought, if we did the wine glasses, i could put votives in each glass, and let them burn out... but they could act as the candleholders on my table?

???? i know you ladies are the best at ideas!

Re: favor idea?

I love your idea!!!!! That is a great favor. I am not a fan of the votive candles inside the glasses. It will get fillid with wax when the candle melts.

I think I would just leave them on the table as a favor.

Re: favor idea?

Very cute idea. Why don't you talk to your BM and see if they can't help you out by rinsing out the glasses after the toast and returning them to the tables afterwards. It's one place to start.

Re: favor idea?

yeah, i guess i didnt think of that... always a possibility to start with the BM

for the votives i was thinking of those ones that are in the little metal dishes, so they'll just melt down into that, not onto the glass....

Re: favor idea?

Don't use your favor with the toast. It's their favor and it's going to cause alot of havoc if you have to clean them, return them... then you run the risk of them breaking and someone goes home wihtout a favor. I went to a wedding where they gave out hand-painted glasses and it was oneo f the nicest favors I had ever gotten! They were boxed and set up on a seperate table. I think that's a good idea. Good luck! They will be great, no matter what you do!

Re: favor idea?

Wow! This is an amazing idea! I'm getting married at a vineyard and was going to do wine bottles as favors, but now I really like this idea! I'm pretty artistic too so maybe I could do it myself? Is there a website or a store where I would be able to find wine glasses for pretty inexpensive????
Thanks so much for making my night!

Re: favor idea?

I saw your post. I made these favors and were a huge hit. I have 70 of them that I am trying to sell. If you are interested let me know. I wanted to combine a good will message with something people would actually use. So I bought these coaster frames that people could put pictures in after and then used the first for a name card and the rest with messages.
Good Luck!

Re: favor idea?

great idea - and very personal!!!

I would just wrap them though, not include them with the place setting - it could be confusing

Re: favor idea?

I think use them as a fovor. Do not use them for the toast. If you try to clean them it will be such an unesessary problem that you don't need.

Re: favor idea?

You could fill the glasses with something, and have them as a favor. Then use the caterer's wine glasses for drinking. I agree, not many are going to want to take home a dirty glass (and you don't want your bridesmaids stuck in the kitchen, or to have to rely on wait staff to bring the glasses back out to each person).

Re: favor idea?

yeah, i'm not a fan of the drinking out of them... but i thought the candles might be a nice idea....i did painted candle holders for my cousins wedding, so i cant do them , even though that's what i'd rather do.... but i think the pair of wine glasses is a nice favor.... and i cant really fill them with anything because they will be painted and you'll lose the beauty of the design if theyre filled with almonds or something...

thanks ladies! :)

Re: favor idea?

LOL.............that's funny because I was thinking of doing the same exact thing. Do you know if the stained glass paint is toxic though?
