Did anyone send out engagement announcements?

A 'friend' of mine just got engaged and sent out announcements. She told me they were supposed to be invitations but she changed the wording to be an engagement announcement. She said she spent sooooo much money on them! They seemed really pretentious to me. Did anyone else do this?

we didn't send out announcements, but we did have an engagement party so we really didnt have to. but if we didnt have a party, i dont think i would have sent them anyway.

I am announcing our engagment in a little sorta newsletter that I am sending with the STD. It will also include info like hotel, reahearsal dinner, shuttle bus.

We sent announcements to family/friends that we dont see all that often. We made them on the computer out of one of the invitation kits from Staples. We called everyone else on the phone or told everyone else in person

No, this girl sent out what I thought was an invitation but was just an announcement. Which I thought was weird b/c she already called me to tell me.

We sent out announcements that were very simple. We had a lot of bad things happen in our families, (Death of family member etc.) the year before we got engaged, so we wanted to finally share some good news. HTH

Yes we did--just a very simple one to everyone because we did not have an engagement party and our wedding was not for 1 1/2 years from our date of engagement! They only cost $180 and we sent to over 100 people!

Nope. I come from a family of loud mouths. Word gets around fast. Also, the STDs helped us out. WE didnt and will not be having an e-party and we still got (and continue to get) e-gifts. Im opening up a Lenox Outlet in my mother's house.

My mother 'insisted' on engagement announcements. I thought the whole idea is kind of outdated, but we actually got great feedback from everyone. People really loved them. (I actually really liked them too).

We ordered them on invitation response cards and just chose a design we liked. It was about $50 for 100 announcements.
