Secrets

Well since the hurricane most of Cancun and the surrounding area have been devastated, and almost all of the resorts are closed due to damages! My problem:

FH and I booked Secrets for our HM and even though its still 6 1/2 months away and they are saying they will be up and running again by January, I am still very apprehensive! Should I cancel and go somewhere else? If so where......it took me forever to come to a decision on Secrets I can not imagine doing it all over again!!

I think you should look around. Places like Cancun don't have much money, so it takes them along time to rebuild.
What about a Sandals in the Caribbean, or a resort in Aruba, or a cruise.

I am having the SAME problem. We didn't book yet, but we just found something --Adeventuras Spa Palace, Riviera Maya. It had everything we were looking for, and now I feel as though we should also start over.

They say most of the resorts shoud be open by December, but what about the surrounding areas? Ugh, so confused. AGAIN!

I know I feel the same exact way! It took me forever to finally find a place that had everything I was looking for and now......I really do not think I can start the search over again!

Im bookedfor Secrets and Imnot re-booking. The hurricane wasnt as terrible as it all seems and its still 9 mons away for me

Thanks!! I think we are going to stick with it! It says they will reopen Nov. 25th, so I am sure if they are opening then, by the time May comes they will have all of the kinks worked out! Now I just have to keep my fingers crossed for the HM suite!!

a girl i know was having a destination wedding in cancun for januray 20,2006 and she had to cancel, the hotel said they have a lot of damage and that there is a lot of damage down there, i think her hotel was meliel smtg, not sure, but that is also only 2 months away your might have time for them to rebuild but maybe look for second place as a just in case and check back with hotel in 2-3 months, if they still arent running right at least you will have a backup....good luck!

I disagree. Cancun relies on the tourist industry for their economy. they are going to rebuild as quickly as possible. We are not talking about a mom and pop operation here. I'm certain that the hotel will be fine by the time you go for your honeymoon.

We are going to Aventura Spa Palace in Riviera Maya. They had no damage at all. I heard that Cancun rebuilds very quickly. We still have 8 months, so we decided we're not changing. We spent enough time looking for the perfect place for us!

We're going to Secrets for our HM about 3 weeks before you and we just booked it last week. So if there are any problems, I will be sure to tell you when we get back!!

We're rebooking our HM as well - decided to do a cruise in Europe instead...

Royal Hideaway is supposed to open March '06 and that's just too close for comfort.
