bridesmaid dress help needed...(long)
I have a few questions: I am wearing a dress with tank top straps; is it okay if my girls wear a strapless gown or one with spaghetti straps?? or will it look bad? I`ve been to davids bridal, the place where I am getting my dress, jessica mclintock in roosevelt field and estelles and have found nothing; where did your girls get their dresses? how much are your girls spending on the dresses? thanks for the help!

I don't think any of those dresses would look bad with your dress style. I bought my dresses in NC where I live, but the dresses I got where Jim Hjelm Occassions. Check out their web site, they have a lot of nice dresses that are not extrememly bridesmaid dress looking. I think the web site is www.jimhjelmoccasions.com

I'm going on Sunday (to Bridal Reflections in Massapequa)with my girls to get their dresses. That's where I got my dress, I'm not crazy about the service there, but they have a good selection. Here's what I did: Before I attempted to get everyone together and argue over which styles they wanted, I decided to go alone with my maid of honor and we filtered out the dresses. I am wearing strapless, my maid of honor wants to wear strapless also and my other girls have all different body types. I just decided that I will pick out a color and we're going to go with one of Jim Hjelms lines. What's good about his dresses is that many of his dresses are come with different 'top styles' (I dont know the fashion term). So one of my girls may want straps, while another is more comfortable in a higher neck line - etc. As long as the body of the dress and the colors are the same, i'm fine as long as they are comfortable and confidant with what they have on. Jim Hjelms dresses go for about $250M - $300M. You should look at his website. He has some very cool dresses.

Thats exactly what I did, we even used Bridal Reflections. The funny thing is we ended up with my MOH in one dress by Jim Helm, and my 3 bridesmaids in one other by Belsoile. I totaly thought they all would pick something different. Service at BR has been fine, but not as attentive as in the bridal salon.

Wow, that's great that your bridesmaids picked the same one. Somehow, I don't think that will happen with me but as long as there happy I'm fine with it. Did they have a lrge selection of Jim Helm to choose from?

I think so, but its hard to tell since everything is grouped by color. I do remember seeing a number of them. Bridal Reflections has a very large selection, Bridal Suite of Bayshore had a lot too. Good luck with your search.

Be very careful with Bridal Suite!!!
My friend is due to get married next weekend. For the past 6 weeks she's been calling Bridal Suite wondering where the Bridesmaids dresses were. Two weeks ago she was told the dresses were never ordered - all that time they told her to relax they would be 'in any day' they were lying to her. They returned all the money - but didn't even try to help remedy the situation. She wound up buying some dresses off the rack at J. McIntock and it all worked out, but I know I don't want that thrown at me as my wedding draws near so I'm staying clear of Bridal Suite!!!

I am using Patchogue Bridal Suite
As far as I am concerned I would recommend them to anyone. I had no problem getting my wedding gown through them (they have even been storing it for me since last August free of charge) and when I called to check on my MOH dress last week, they said it would be in the 2nd week of July. Further, when after ordering my headpiece and veil through Bridal Suite, and the manufacturer went out of business with no warning, they had it custom made for me (using the sample as a guide)and did not charge me anything extra. You can't ask for better service than that.

Sorry it took so long to get the details - just got back from a week long trip to LI. Anyway - my friend was working with the Bridal Suite in Patchauge and they dropped the ball. If your using them I would just recommend you stay on top of the situation until your bridesmaids dresses come in!

Wow...very surprised
I'm surprised to hear that about the Patchogue Bridal Suite. They have been in business for more than 30 years and I have never heard a negative word about them from anyone. My experience with them has been nothing but good. I'm doubly surprised that they did nothing to rectify the situation. As I mentioned in my previous post they had my headpiece custom made at no additional cost after the manufacturer went out of business. Did your friend speak with the owner? Her name is Bea and she is there most of the time. I guess even the best shops make a mistake now and then. It's just too bad they didn't fix it. They should have.

It`s unfortunate .. but stay on top of everything...
I think no matter what the situation, we all need to try to stay on top of everything we`re planning .. just to try to avoid any last minute surprises. I ordered my gown through Bridal Suite in Bay Shore in early December, then a month later, they were a tremendous help with getting our girls dress order in under the wire as it was about to be discontinued. AWESOME! In April, I called to check on the dress orders. And the girls were in, but I hadn`t received any card or call. Well, I figured being a little postcard, it probably accidently got stuck in one of those weekly flyers or sales circulars. Oh well .. then they said they expected my dress to be in in early May. Early May came, and still no card/call on my dress. I called and they said they had a shipping date of June 2, and expected it to arrive June 20. Okay, I waited another month, and the dress came in. Cool. But I had called to check June 18, and to this day I have still not received the card/call that`s supposed to go out alerting me the dress is in. BUT .. just yesterday, Friday July 6, I received the card telling me the girls dresses were in! Gee thanks - they`ve only been in since April! I joked with my fiance .. could you imagine .. if I never called, I`d probably get the card regarding my dress the day before the wedding! LOL Bottom line ... try to keep on top of everything. I`ve already been in for my first fitting .. if I hadn`t called, I`d never know my dress was in. This is not really a knock against Bridal Suite of Bay Shore .. they have been absolutely great to work with, and I would totally recommend them to anyone.

I also used Bridal Suite of Bay Shore. I have no complaints, but I had a similar experience with the post card. I called to check on my dress. They said it was shipped and they should have it in a week or 2, and I would get a postcard. I called 2 weeks later and the dress was in. That was Jan. 2000, and I never got a postcard.Welcome New Vendors
